The four-year old boy shot at Harambee Park in Dorchester on Monday night was hit by a stray bullet fired in a gang-related shooting, police said. There were reports of multiple gunshots fired before several young men were seen fleeing towards Blue Hill Avenue. This contradicts initial police reports of shooters on motorbikes. Ronald P. McGinn, Jr., a guard at MCI-Norfolk was arrested for allegedly selling heroin to inmates. He faces 20 years in jail and a $1,000,000 fine if convicted of possession of heroin with intent to distribute. The US Attorney's office said McGinn was recorded discussing his plans to smuggle drugs into the prison with an undercover agent. There are also text messages detailing the plans as well. McGinn is from Bridgewater and had about 28 grams of heroin on him when he was arrested. [Globe] more ›

Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone said three men were indicted for their roles in the December armed robbery of Kohl’s department store in Woburn that led to the murder of police officer Jack Maguire. Arthur Cinelli, 50, of Newburyport is charged with conspiracy to commit masked armed robbery and accessory before the fact to masked armed robbery, Scott Hanright, 19, of Wakefield faces murder, masked armed robbery, firearm violations and other charges, and Kevin Dingwell, 51, of Wakefield was indicted on charges of being accessory after the fact of robbery and willfully misleading a police officer. Shawn Drumgold, 45, of Fall River spent 14 years in jail for the 1988 murder of 12-year old Darlene Tiffany Moore, a crime he didn't commit. He was arrested with several other men on Wednesday on Cardington Street in Roxbury in drug bust. Police allegedly found heroin and crack cocaine in the apartment, and "cut-off baggies" on Drumgold. Drumgold pleaded pleaded not guilty to possession with intent to distribute heroin and crack and two counts of violating the state’s drug laws. He was released on $500 cash bail. He hasn't been paid the $14 million he was awarded in 2009 by a U.S. District Court jury. [Herald] more ›

-- A drug dealer from Providence was arrested in Somerville last Thursday. The suspect had at least 53 grams of crack cocaine he tried to flush down the toilet. Cops also allegedly found additional drugs hidden in the suspect's car. Somerville Police tried to “ward off the demons of law enforcement” by using religious trinkets to protect his secret drug hiding place. --An 18-month-old baby girl from East Somerville was kidnapped, allegedly by her own aunt. WBZ reports that Somerville police found the baby today. Four people were arrested in the kidnapping of Hayden Augustin-Laurent, and one of them was her aunt, Ketia Valmont.
