Boston Blotter: Graffiti Artist Gets 6 Months; Shoot-out in Dorchester

-- Danielle Bremner, who writes graffiti as "UTAH," was sentenced to six months in prison by Boston Municipal Court after she pleaded guilty to tagging buildings in the Back Bay and trains in an MBTA yard in East Boston. Bremner, who lives in New York, had been a fugitive from prosecution for more than a year when she was arrested in Chicago in August 2008. She has also been convicted of vandalism charges in New York. [Herald]

  • Some residents of a Hyannis boarding house could be the first tenants to avoid eviction because of a new federal foreclosure law. [Cape Cod Times]

-- Police have identified the victim whose body was discovered on fire near Hyannis. 16-year-old Jordan Mendes was a drug dealer, police say, and they have arrested two 13-year-old suspects in the slaying, one of whom was Mendes's half-brother. Prosecutors say that the 13-year-olds killed Mendes after robbing him of $10,000 to buy a BMW. Mendes was shot in the torso and stabbed 27 times. [Herald]

-- Boston police have issued a warning about a string of sexual assault cases that began when the victims got into the wrong cab. Five incidents of sexual assaults involving cabbies or livery drivers have been reported since October 4th. Suspect descriptions have varied, and at least one suspect has been jailed. The BPD offers a list of prevention tips to keep women safe. Among the most useful: only hail cabs that have Boston licenses, stay in groups, and never get in the front seat of a taxi. [BPDNews]

--The media has become entranced by the image of a dude looking like a lady and robbing a bank in Somerset on Wednesday. There's really not much of a story here, except that the dude in question makes for one ugly woman. Apparently, Mrs. Doubtfire was hotter. [Boston Globe]

--Last night, a snowplow struck a pregnant woman as she was walking in Billerica. She is now in the hospital. Her injuries are non-life-threatening. The driver of the snowplow stayed on the scene, but he was citied for driving with a suspended license. [Boston Globe]
