Animals have been making news lately.

  • A custodian found a python in a locker at the old Newton North High School on Tuesday. The Ball python is common in Massachusetts and was thought to be about a year old and either two or three feet long. (Boston.cmom reported both. Maybe his name is Reed Richards.) The custodian knew how to catch the snake by watching nature shows. [Boston.com]
  • A deer was found dead in the Uxbridge Church of the Nazarene on Tuesday. The doe got in but couldn't get out. [MassLive.com]
  • No animal story is complete without crazy cat people. The Barnstable Animal Control Officer rescued 38 cats from a Hyannisport home. The cats were dirty but not necessarily unhealthy. Some reportedly had "beards of fleas." [Cape Cod Times]

In case you hadn't heard, President Barack Obama and family are spending their summer vacation on Martha's Vineyard. The trip is slated to begin a week from yesterday, and today the Herald informed us about one part of his potential itinerary. Obama may visit Senator Ted Kennedy at his Hyannisport home, if the Senator is up to it. Bostonist hopes Teddy feels good enough to host Obama. We're nervous, though, as his battle with a malignant brain tumor seems to be an uphill fight. more ›
