BostonTV: And Now, For Something... Not Too Different, Actually

Tonight's the night to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the silliest comedy troupe in Britain. Part one of the new Monty Python: Almost the Truth (The Lawyer's Cut) kicks off a week of movies and six parts of SPAM-melting documentary. It's the perfect opportunity both for longtime fans to celebrate their idols and for new recruits to be welcomed into the bosom of Python. To the jump!

Good morning, class. Unfortunately your regular Bostonist couldn’t make it to the IFC Media Project’s town hall at MIT yesterday, so you’ll have to make do with a substitute teacher. One word out of any of you and it’s straight to the principal’s office!

SFist commeters pose for before and aftershocks when the mayor commemorates a 1906 earthquake...at 4:30 in the morning. A hot tip on the Chronicle vending machines comes in and the SFist war correspondent risks life and limb to post this dispatch from the frontlines.

The South By Southwest Festival in Austin has three components: Music, Film, and Interactive. And probably nobody navigates their way between these three worlds as well as Henry Rollins. Best known for his musical career (Black Flag, Rollins Band), Rollins has parlayed that into a career as a "jackass of all tirades" - actor, author, corporate speaker, unflinching social critic. He gave a freewheeling, honest talk at a one-on-one interview session with Esquire journalist Andy Langer.

This weekend The Baxter drops into theaters in Boston. It's one of those "now in select cities" things, and we're up. Bostonist has seen the trailers all over the place and we're actually looking forward to this movie. A comedy for anyone who's ever been dumped? check. It's from the folks at IFC and The Onion to boot. It stars Michael Showalter (Stella) and co-stars Paul Rudd (The 40-Year Old Virgin) and Michael Ian Black (Stella, Ed). Catch interviews of Michael Showalter and Michael Ian Black on Chicagoist and Gothamist. And if you are curious if you might be a Baxter just take the quiz

"Me and You and Everyone we Know" opened last weekend, and this week Bostonist brought you a contest. Bostonist would like to congratulate Colleen C. and Ashley W. for winning the prize pack of DVDs, including Touching The Void, Y Tu Mamá Tambien, and Casa De Los Babys. They also get an IFC t-shirt, a tote, and a "Me and You..." soundtrack, along with passes to see the film. Thanks to everyone who entered. Perhaps next contest, it will be you expressing sentiments like those uttered by our winners this time: "No way! Wow, I've never won anything before as cool as this!" and "Are you kidding? I NEVER win anything!". Bostonist would like to suggest that we're all winners in this town, since we bring you the prize of our posts each day, for free!

"Me and You and Everyone we Know" opened this weekend to positive reviews from folks all over Boston. Today Bostonist brings you a contest we mentioned in an interview post with Miranda July last week. We're giving away to prize packs including an IFC movie pack, and special engagement passes to catch the flick on the big screen. Entries must be received by 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2005, and only one entry per person. Affiliates of Bostonist and other Gothamist sites are not eligible to win prizes.

Bounding out of Sundance with critical acclaim Miranda July’s "Me and You and Everyone we Know" opens in Boston, well Cambridge, this weekend. On a journey across the states, the film opened in New York and LA two weeks ago and adds Kendall Square Cinema to the list this week, with more to follow in the future. Today being July 1, Bostonist thought it a great opportunity to catch up with Miranda July. She answers some questions about how to make it as an artist, outreach, and casting. Read the Interview and watch for a Bostonist Contest running Monday through Wednesday next week. We're giving away an IFC movie pack, tote bags (everyone loves a tote!), and tickets to catch the flick on the big screen.
