Unlike the Top 10 Most Commented stories, the top 10 favorites represented a selection of all the fun, the playful, and just plain odd that this city has to offer. You loved sex scandals at the local schools, Vendetta Gunn, and the local productions On Broadway and "BU Tonight." But we were really surprised at how much you loved … Barbie. Yeah, Barbie.
You may not have noticed since they've been largely under the radar, but the Boston Film Festival starts this weekend at the AMC Loews Boston Common, and they have some good movies. If you're looking to be touched, warmed and uplifted by a movie these days, don't go to the multiplex. You know this already, of course. Instead, make sure you live in a city where they host a film festival, where you might run into something as special as Dave McLaughlin's On Broadway, which premiered this weekend at the Independent Film Festival of Boston. It's the story of blue-collar Jack O'Toole (played by, yes, that Joseph...

Speaking in Code is coming to the Enormous Room on Sunday, June 11. Speaking in Code is a feature-length documentary film about the international electronic, dance, and music scene – and specifically the people who make the whole thing move. Local folks including Amy Grill of Emerson College and Jason Redmond, executive director of Boston's Independent Film Festival are pushing big to make the movie a success. Right now it's a grass-roots effort. For $50 you can buy into the credits of the film, you can appear in the "special thanks" scroll a the end of the film. The $50 will get you an RSVP spot on their guest list to the Enormous Room even, hors d'oeuvres, complimentary beverages, a sneak peak at the DVD of new footage of the film, and of course the party to ensue – headlined by local DJ's Jon Schmidt, Jay Flower and Mike Uzzi. For now you can see a little snippet of what's on tap (in the form of a video invite) thanks to YouTube and sQuareProductions.
Bostonist's going to see the movies about four-letter words and zombies, but we urge you to check out the rest of Boston International Film Festival, which offers samurai, crossword puzzles, giant Buddhas, and Pixies.
