Following up on last week's decision to postpone a vote, faculty at UMass-Boston issued a no-confidence measure against University president Jack Wilson, slapping down his proposal to restructure the five campuses that make up the University of Massachusetts. Members of the Faculty Council approved the measure during the Monday afternoon meeting, which was attended by about 70 professors. Governor Deval Patrick came out in support of UMass President Jack Wilson's reorganization plan yesterday. Well, at least he supported Wilson's authority to shake up the leadership of the university system. The state executive branch supporting the state's university system executive branch seems fitting. The biggest complaint from the faculty at the UMass campuses has been voiced as Wilson's lack of transparency and consultation with the university faculty. Essentially it is a "you should have......

Keith Motley was appointed by UMass President Jack Wilson to the post, as part of a flurry of announcements yesterday that sent the current chancellor, Michael Collins, to the UMass Medical School in Worcester, where he will direct health-sciences initiatives for the university. Well known as an inspirational and charismatic leader, the exiting Chancellor’s new appointment likely......

Yesterday, the Boston Globe reported on UMass President Jack Wilson getting heated about the state Board of Higher Education, New England School of Law and Suffolk Law School. UMass has proposed merging UMass-Dartmouth and Southern New England School of Law, the state board plans to vote on March 31. Wilson is irritated because the board has distributed negative reports about the proposal seemingly in cahoots with NESL and Suffolk. Suffolk University Law School and......
