--The investigation into why a commuter rail train crashed into a loose boxcar in Canton, injuring 150, is turning toward brakes not being set on a car at a lumberyard in Stoughton. Also, even if the train was on the loose, "The car should have been stopped by a derailing device where the siding meets the main track. A source close to the investigation said the derailing device worked properly when tested Wednesday morning and passed its most recent inspection." [The Enterprise of Brockton]

A startup by some MIT grads started making waves a year ago when they began putting some venture capital to use to build their social networking site. After a year of growth some issues arose with their name, coincidentally with their expansion from Boston into New York City and the Bay Area. HeyLetsGo was to be no more; they were looking for a new name. Today they announced their new identity: Going.com.
Austinist gets arty with an interactive guide to SXSW, loved some local art galleries and a new art exhibit and lamented the possible loss of "Friday Night Lights" production to New Mexico. Bostonist was happy they finally found an Anna Nicole Smith connection to their fair city and that an Apple Store was opening up. They were less happy that new rules have been established limiting underage shows and that their Governor is spending...
About a month back, Bostonist got all caught up in the $25 fare offered by Jet Blue to get you from Boston to New York City. We even called the contest, shunned the Fung Wah, and gave the advantage to the plane. This widely successful move by the discount carrier has actually made competing shuttles drop their prices a bit too. But we’re done with New York: There are just far too many people in the city during the holiday season. So we’re packing our bags and going to the nation’s capital, Washington, DC. JetBlue is tempting us again, this time with a Logan-to-Dulles run for just $25. Discounts, unfortunately, won’t get us down to DC to witness the Whitehouse Christmas separation of church and state first hand - the cheap fares are valid in January and February. Regular fares are priced from $55 to $140 each way (and won’t require advanced purchase). Since their takeover of the old Delta terminal at Logan, JetBlue has been adding routes right and left. It may be Mitt's dream come true, only $25 to D.C. but it's doubtful that he'll be able to make residence there for such a tiny sum.
The news lately seems to be tugging us back and forth between the Fung Wah bus and the more high-end ways to get to New York: First we found out that all the Acela trains had defective brakes. Then a Fung Wah bus burst into flames on the road. Then the radar at Logan started seeing planes that weren't there. Now, Jet Blue, which recently set up shop at Logan, will be offering $25 flights to the Big Apple ten times a day. $25! Bostonist has long prided ourself (wow - first person plural is weird) on choosing the cheapest option, luxury and time notwithstanding. This attitude got us through our lean college years and our even leaner law-school years, and we've been reluctant to abandon it just because we finally have a job that doesn't involve daily risk to life and limb. But we must admit that an extra ten bucks to save three and a half hours of travel time is hard to resist. Maybe when the promotion is over and the cost goes up to $40, we'll go back to the bus. But for now, let the high-flying good life begin! Look for Bostonist on the security line, shoes in hand, hoping they don't give us a hard time about the bottle of whiskey in our carry-on.
Recently Bostonist noticed the influx of JetBlue ads around the MBTA stations in Boston. We also observed the changes that are set to take place at Logan Airport in the coming months when Terminal A, finally, comes online. Delta will move operations over to Terminal A and JetBlue will take on many of the gates currently occupied by Delta in Terminal C. JetBlue has been sparking some rumors for the last couple of days about...
The Back Bay MBTA stop was taken over by Jet Blue ads last week. They’re expanding their routes from the MassPort operated Logan International Airport, and taking the lease on Delta’s spot for Terminal C. Delta will move their service into the $475 Million renovation of Terminal A. With more gates and a brand new terminal Bostonist hopes two things happen: fewer delays and cheaper flights. The new terminal at Logan was designed and built with the new security regulations, stemming from the 9-11 attacks, in place.
