At one point or another, a New Englander is bound to ponder Tom Brady's sex life. He's handsome, talented, and rich, the Ken doll of the NFL. Of course he's scored some mattress touchdowns. But Kevin Thompson, candidate for Marty Meehan's empty spot in the 5th Congressional district, thinks Brady needs to keep his pants zipped. Thompson had a lot to say about Brady's recent interview with Details magazine: What kind of world is this... more ›

While we don’t long for the days of having a required summer reading list, Bostonist has been feeling a bit inspired to pick up a book and actually start reading something not on a computer screen. Since we’re going to be “vacationing” in the city this year, we might as well read some books that are set here in our fair state. Here are some of our Bostonist staff picks for your reading enjoyment. History... more ›

Just as you're coming down from the high of celebrating the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., along comes the birth date of another great American, and this time it's one of Boston's own. Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706 - 300 years ago! - on what is now Milk Street, right here in the Hub (although the man who would give Boston that nickname wouldn't be born for another 103 years). Philly... more ›

Poor Mitt Romney, stymied at every turn. Last week, the Supreme Judicial Court refused to tell him whether he could legally demote Mass Pike chairman Matthew Amorello, and this morning we learn that there are even more leaks and defects in the Big Dig than previously thought (Bostonist can imagine Mitt inside the Statehouse, shaking his fist at one of the east-facing windows that looks down Ashburton Place toward the John Adams Courthouse). Worse still, state lawmakers yesterday approved a law allowing distribution of the morning-after pill without a prescription, and Mitt must now sign or veto it, forcing him to take a stand that will hurt him either in the 2006 state election (if he nixes it) or the 2008 national election (if he lets it ride). And to rub salt in his wounds, conservative groups aren't even bothering to mobilize opposition to Mitt's nomination to the Supreme Court (despite Bostonist's firm belief that he would be a wise pick for W.). With all this and the gloomy weather, Bostonist can only hope that the Governor isn't doing what we would be doing right now if we were in his shoes. more ›

The Cat Lady of Beacon Hill is back. Readers may recall Heidi Erickson, who was ousted from apartments on Charles Street and in Watertown in 2003 after city inspectors discovered several starved cats and many many more dead ones (over 100 in all), most of them frozen, in her humble, urine-stinking abodes. (Wait - did we mention the Great Dane? There was a Great Dane too.) Aside from periodic, highly amusing court appearances - in... more ›
