Welcome Fall with the Points North

It's getting down into the forties at night, the leaves are coming out, and the time has come to buy your October T pass. Yes, it's officially fall. And there's no better way to ring (or strum) it in than with local folksters The Points North, whose silken sounds range from cool autumn breezes to crunchy acorns underfoot. The band celebrates the release of its new LP, I Saw Across the Sound, with The Needy Visions and Gracious Calamity at First Church (6 Eliot St, Jamaica Plain). The show starts at 8pm, and the $8 admission fee includes a vinyl LP.

The Running of the Greyhound Brides?

Doyle's, thrift, greyhounds, JP, weddings. How do all of these elements go together? We're not entirely sure, but it seems that Second Chances thrift store will be in JP this Saturday to sell old wedding dresses for $99 and up. Come to Doyle's (3484 Washington St, JP, a best of the best bar) from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm tomorrow for your chance at a super-cheap old-school gown for marriage or costume purposes. All proceeds go to Greyhound Friends, a greyhound rescue that may need the extra help next year when thousands of greyhounds become unemployed.

Bella Luna Has Reopened

Bostonist couldn't restrain ourselves from eating a slice (or four) before taking a photo of this delicious pizza, the first to be delivered to our house from the new Bella Luna location. The Jamaica Plain restaurant, which had been chased out of its space on Centre Street by greedy landlords who must be loving the New Economy, moved via parade to a new space at the Brewery Complex last month. Bella Luna reopened at its new location yesterday.

We learned the news almost a year ago that Hyde Square landmark the Milky Way Lounge was going to have to abandon its digs after its landlords, Mordechai Levin and Terry Bruce, demanded a $11,000 increase in monthly rent. And it's finally happened. The last game of candlepin at the Milky Way was rolled last night.

Boston Blotter: JP Shooter at Large

-- Boston police have a suspect in last night's fatal shooting on Mozart Street in Jamaica Plain. They say that Gorio "Mikey" Lopez, a 19-year-old Dorchester man, shot 32-year-old Shoughan Morgan to death after an argument escalated out of control. Morgan's body was found early this morning after police responded to reports of gunshots. [BPDNews]

Who doesn't love melted cheese? La Papusa Guanaca is a small restaurant on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain that focuses on the food of El Salvador, including the delicious, hot and melty papusa. The little crispy corn pancakes ($1.25), about the size of your palm, are stuffed with cheese, cheese and pork, or cheese and beans, and then fried on a griddle. They're really hot, though, when they come out, so save yourself from a burn and wait a minute before eating.
