It's gotten boring waiting for Lord Hobo to open. The restaurant, which will eventually occupy the deathbed of the B-Side Lounge, has been threatening to open since last January, which has given its owners plenty of time to think of a less retarded name. ("Peasant Bourgeoisie"?) At any rate, its menu is finally live, complete with nearly two dozen irritating ellipses. The good news? 30 freaking beers. (Via Grub Street Boston)

Boston Blotter: Massholes in the Movie Theater

-- Some Massholes can't keep their rage in their cars. A 44-year-old Boston man was arrested at the Kendall Square Cinema Sunday after he allegedly assaulted a 31-year-old woman who wouldn't shut up during the movie. [Cambridge Chronicle]

Bostonist got a tip that a man just committed suicide by jumping from a building around Main Street and Ames in Cambridge. No other information is available at the moment, but if true, our thoughts go out to the man's friends and family as well as anyone unfortunate enough to have witnessed the death.

The Herald reports that Friendly Toast, the landmark New Hampshire diner, will be opening an outpost in the Kendall Square area. Can the Mexican Mashed Meal be described using a mathematical formula? [Herald]

The menu at Aceituna Cafe has lots of options, mostly under $10, ranging from pita roll-ups to heartier entrees with meat, rice and salad. The real deals, though, are in the vegetarian plate and the combo specials. The vegetarian plate has a choose-3 option ($7.79) and a choose-5 option ($9.79), although three choices provides plenty of food. Try the tabboule, predominantly made of finely chopped parsley and served in heaping scoops, or the falafel, large, crunchy, heavily spiced patties with a more chunky texture than at most falafel restaurants. Other choices include hummus, babaghannouge, rice with lentils, grape leaves, and couscous salad. If sandwiches are more your speed, try the combo specials, featuring fries, a soda, and a falafel roll-up ($7.25) or a chicken or beef shawarma roll-up ($8.75).

Currently playing at the Kendall Square Theater in Cambridge, Neten Chokling's film "Milarepa: Magician, Murderer, Saint" offers the western world a peak into the Buddhist community. The film tells the story of Milarepa, a young boy who is destined to become one of the most important Buddhist yogis in history. Set in the 11th century, the real draw of this film is the stunning cinematography and sheer beauty of the Tibetan highlands. Those of...

--Word is out that some boneheaded morons knocked over a 160-year-old bust of Jesus that is displayed at the Boston Public Library. It happened on September 12 in the afternoon, and the man and woman who did it got caught on videotape. The pair didn't go after the bust of Lucifer. Apparently they were trying to make a point, but it was obscured in the sheer amount of dumbassery displayed by their behavior. It still...

You know what's up. You know that O.A.R. is not to be referred to as "oar." You remember listening to that version of "Hey Girl" that you got off of Napster way before you heard the tune on the radio, and you've enjoyed the Maryland band's shows at spots all around town. So are you going to take in O.A.R. on the big screen tonight? Boston will be one of 15 cities to screen "Behind...

This week is officially Bike Week. Regular commuters, part time enthusiasts, friends, and allies of bikers will be donning their helmets (please put on your helmet) and taking to the streets to celebrate a great form of human powered transportation. While many events take place from Boston to NoHo we're focusing our attention on those happening close to home. Free biker appreciation breakfasts and group rides have been organized. Check out the full listing at...

Spring is here, which means its time to dust off your pleather, latex underwear, and everything in dark lace. Since early March, when Lauren DeVain started hosting Black Magic at Shine in Kendall Square, the night has moved to Axis ID Club (upstairs) to accommodate the growing number of followers and devotees in attendance. Ever since Manray closed its door in 2005, Boston's dark underground has been trying to find its niche again - the undead of electro, goth, and industrial waves. Bringing in Justincredible, Mistaker, and David Day to spin sleazy disco, industrial, goth-rock, and dark trance. Even better, there is no stuffiness or dress codes. All are welcome.

If you happen upon a frazzled-looking group clutching film equipment this weekend, don't go assuming that Kevin Spacey's MIT blackjack movie has run into tough times. Instead, give local filmmakers a hand (or a triple shot of espresso), because the 48 Hour Film Project is likely pushing them to their creative edges. Teams in 55 U.S. cities (and a few abroad) will be gathering early this evening to celebrate and prepare for two full days...

Friday will mark the start of the third weekend the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square will serve you a beer and let you take it with you to your seat. The Boston area has been an outcast for a while without a movie house serving beers - the Somerville Theatre has ended our thirst. They may have gotten the idea when Snakes on a Plane hit the theaters, knowing the bureaucracy it probably took until...

Google is looking at property in the Boston area for a new hub in the Hub. The Herald reported earlier this week that Google was looking for 100,000 to 200,000 square feet of office space in either Boston or Cambridge to launch a new operations center on the East Coast. The rumors of the Google invasion have come to Bostonist via emails and our tipline – while we can't substantiate any of them the job...

A major fire at One Broadway resulted in injuries, one of them critical. Universal Hub moved fast and posted a report from a woman who works in the building and saw the impact of the smoke inhalation firsthand. They also have a report from someone who was on the Kendall T stop platform and saw lights "flicker and flash and eventually [go] out." CBS4 has video of people describing the smoke, and they also...

Choreography, audience participation, and live musical performances abound: Saturday 11/18 Buffy the Vampire Slayer Sing-A-Long Based on the musical television episode "Once More, With Feeling" and now a hallowed national tradition, the Buffy Sing-A-Long was born in Brookline, and its doula was former Coolidge Corner Theatre program director Clinton McClung, who's back to host this event at his old haunt. You'll be supplied with lyrics, a goodie bag full of props, and the freedom to...

In a world where there's nothing to do but watch movies. In a city full of theaters, museums, and libraries. One moviegoer who can be in three places at once. Friday 10/06 Jesus Camp Ted Haggard, megapastor of Colorado Springs' New Life megachurch, has megacondemned this unflinching documentary (horror movie, for Cantabrigians), possibly because pentecostalism could freak out potential megachurchgoers, or possibly because Ted Haggard is in it and he comes off as megacreepy. Opening...

In a world where there's nothing to do but watch movies. In a city full of theaters, museums, and libraries. One moviegoer who can be in three places at once. Thursday 8/3 Stolen One of the things that endears the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum to us (along with the dim lighting, strict ban on electronic devices, and terse signage) is how the frames of missing paintings hang empty on the walls. (As per Mrs. Gardner's...

What goes better with summer than al fresco dining? Al fresco beer, of course, and Cambridge Brewing Company (a.k.a. CBC) has both in spades. Although this Kendall Square hideaway makes for a cozy nosh during the winter months, (wood-burning stove outside the front door so smokers don’t have to freeze,) once the mercury rises CBC opens its spacious patio for diners and drinkers alike. It’s an ideal place to while away a weekend afternoon, and the proximity to Kendall Square Cinema makes it a great choice for evening as well – you can drink a pitcher then wait out your buzz in the theater.

Friday 7/14 They Came Back (Les Revenants) The dead return by the thousands, but they're the French dead: their hunger is existential. In a world where there's nothing to do but watch movies. In a city full of theaters, museums, and libraries. One moviegoer who can be in three places at once. Opening Friday 7/7 A Scanner Darkly Waking Life Bostonist is crossing her fingers that Richard Linklater's well-cast and lovingly-animated Philip K. Dick adaptation will strike the right tone of near-future uneasiness (like Bladerunner did) and eschew chase scenes and tacked-on Hollywood endings (like Total Recall...

A sub-level grotto hidden in the 1 Kendall Square complex, The Blue Room offers sweet relief from the neighborhood’s austere biotech ambiance. Upon arriving, diners are greeted and led through the dimly lit interior to a table that is, invariably, set with water and wine glasses, encouraging thoughts of an unoaked chardonnay or a ripe malbec. However, even the most die-hard oneophile would find it difficult to resist the specialty cocktails served up by resident bartenders. The blood-orange cosmopolitan ($10) is a surefire winner, and their classic martini can’t be beat. But if you still prefer wine to liquor, the list is both extensive and exhaustive. In addition to wines by the glass and bottle, the Blue Room also offers half bottles and “big bottles” (1.5 L) to suit every taste (and wallet). One standout was a 2001 brut rose sparkler, part of their “think pink, drink pink” breast health awareness campaign.

Bostonist has long heard tell of the treasures that await in the brick-walled confines of Emma’s pizzeria, but has been unable to verify the rumors until just this weekend. Happily, all the compliments ring true - Emma’s pizza does indeed top the charts in every category. But the true value of this tiny eatery can’t be quantified by sauce alone. Unique charm is found in the details: adorably matched wine glasses, handmade signs in the bathroom, individually painted wooden chairs. However, as the menu enigmatically pleads, “our dining room is small – please be courteous”, one might be ill-inclined to linger as impatient customers tap their feet in the entranceway.

Local born photographer and lover of handbags has completed her Longfellow Bridge Project. Following her photography for the last few months has taken a trip around the country recent months – landing back in Boston for a brief time before the recent move to Queens. We're sure she'll bring a fresh lens to the NYC Photoblogging community. Over the last few months she undertook a project of photographing the view from the Longfellow Bridge towards Back Bay and Fenway which now contains 77 photos and a collage at Flickr. As Sara described her project

So for the next couple of months or so my evening commute will involve a walk from Kendall Square over the Longfellow Bridge to Charles/MGH. I plan to take a photo of the skyline each day and post it here.
The photos were taken from January to the end of May and show the progression from the winter's short days with lights on and dusk apparent in the sky, to sunsets just setting in as the days grew longer, to the spring rains and lots of gray. This shouldn't be the end of innovative Flickr sets – check out her photos and use them as inspiration for your own sets. Perhaps a series capturing all the Madonna statues in Somerville, or a photo of the ticket for just about every concert you've attended.
