Kenya's Geoffrey Mutai covered 26.2 miles faster than any person ever has when he won the Boston Marathon in 2:0:02 on Monday. The IAAF says the "downhill course" that Boston uses is not eligible to set a world record as it creates a "tailwind." The BAA plans to ask the IAAF to certify Mutai's time as a world record. Second-place finisher Moses Mosop also broke the world record. [WCVB]
The 115th edition of the Boston Marathon was a record-setting edition as Kenyan Geoffry Mutai won the race by obliterating the world record with a time of 2:03:02. Mutai disposed of his countryman, Moses Musop, on Boylston Street to win by four seconds. Musop's 2:03:06 was also below the previous record.
We all love pirates, except for the real ones. Two Massachusetts Maritime Academy graduates were on board a cargo ship taken over by Somali pirates today. The AP reports that the 17,000-ton Maersk Alabama was attacked while bringing emergency relief to Mombasa, Kenya.
