Michael Varano, 52, of Bridgewater was arrested, for robbing the St. Thomas Aquinas parish center in Bridgewater, for the second time in three months for breaking and entering and larceny on Friday. His 11-year old son was with him during the robberies. Varano was arraigned on April 6 on 49 charges after breaking into 16 homes. During one heist, he brought his 4-year old daughter with him. Lawrence police arrested two men who staged a five-hour standoff after allegedly robbing a liquor store, attempting to flee, and taking hostages. Police responded to McCann’s Liquors on South Union Street around noon on Sunday after a 911 call reported seeing people running from the store. Seeing police, SWAT, and K-9 officers, the suspects tried to flee but were blocked by a locked gate and returned to the store. They ended up in a crawlspace where police captured them, money, possibly stolen from the store, and guns. Four customers were trapped in the store for hours. Store owner Arturo Taveras, 67, suffered head injuries, and needed 37 stitches, after he was hit in the head with a gun. An assembled crowd cheered as the suspects were led away by police. Two alleged homemade bombs exploded in front of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Marshfield on Friday night. Police said nobody was hurt and the explosions left “basketball sized craters." The bombs were allegedly thrown from Highland Street onto the church grounds. Police said it was probably a prank and not a direct threat to the church. Nathaniel A. Hudon, 31, of Danvers was arrested after kidnapping a Malden woman and leading police on a 20-mile pursuit after she escaped. Five State troopers eventually captured Hudon at a rest area after he climbed to the roof of the service plaza building in Charlton. The victim escaped at the Westborough rest area on the Mass. Pike despite the suspect's removal of the inside handles of his car. She kicked through the window. Police allege he was under the influence of cocaine. He'll be charged with kidnapping, assault and battery, operating under the influence of narcotics, operating a motor vehicle in endanger, failure to stop for police, speeding, and marked lane violation on Monday. Kevin Louis was found not guilty of murdering a teenager from Hyde Park on July 4th. He didn't shoot victim Roniel Marc but was charged with murder under the "joint venture" doctrine. Louis was convicted on multiple weapons charges. Sentencing is set for Thursday. [UniversalHub] more ›

-- A cab driver from Waltham allegedly refused to let a female passenger out of a cab Saturday morning and is now charged with kidnapping, operating to endanger and failure to stop for a police officer. The passenger called 911 and said "Please help me. I am in a taxi that will not let me out of the taxi in Quincy." The driver, Osei Kwame, said the passengers, one managed to exit the cab before driving off with the female passenger, refused to pay the fare. -- A 38-year old Malden woman bit a police officer during a Drug Control Unit investigation in Davis Square. The suspect matched the description of an alleged drug dealer and was observed putting some "unidentified objects" in her mouth. Police tried to remove the objects, thought to be heroin when the bite happened. Charges include assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and drug possession. -- An MBTA trolley driver who was quietly suspended in May for his role in a crash involving a car full of BC students, including members of the hockey team, in April was suspended indefinitely on Thursday by the T. The trolley driver was speeding, and may face perjury charges over testimony at a hearing. A BC freshman who was driving had all charges against her dropped. She may sue. BC is upset. Fredette said one weapon was recovered but didn't say which suspect fired the fatal shot. The baby cut from a slain mother's womb was found alive in New Hampshire Wednesday night. The baby was reportedly in "fairly good health" and is being evaluated in a hospital. Darlene Haynes, a 23-year-old from Worcester, was 8 months pregnant when she was found dead in her apartment on Monday. A man and a woman were with the baby when the child was found. According to WCVB, the woman was arrested and charged with kidnapping may face murder charges when she is returned to Massachusetts. All charges alleged until proven under law. more ›
