The Harvard Crimson ran a short story in Friday's edition of the paper on the Harvard Radcliffe Science Fiction Association's (HRSFA) performance of an abridged "Julius Cesar." The students performed on the steps of Memorial Hall and employed bed sheet togas and umbrellas as costumes. The Crimson reports that turnout was low, but the student group considered it a success. "Rachel S. Storch ’10, who played Cassius and Plebian Number One, said that the event was intended partly as an opportunity for club members to release aggression, but mostly to just 'confuse the tourists.' " Nerdy flash mob? Could be. But as the warning of the Ides of March were being played out by the HRSFA players just across Harvard Yard (in what looks like Lamont Library) a rogue group of players were invading a reading room and giving the sixty-second version of Cesar's assassination. The current Bostonist panty theme isn't over. And it's not our fault. This city has it on the brain. First off, Tom Brady might be dating lingerie model and DiCaprio cast-off Gisele Bundchen. The Track Girls gleefully reported Bundchen draping herself around the locker room. Normally, this Bostonist wouldn't give two plug nickels to know who Tom Brady is dating. While Harvard's Morris Gray Lecture series has been nearly cursed in the past few years, E.L. Doctorow's lecture should go off without a hitch tonight. He's giving a free lecture at the Lamont Forum Room in Lamont Library at 6PM. You should go because Doctorow is a literary lion with the arguably canonical Ragtime to his credit. Ragtime (also a movie and a Broadway play) is a stunner--combining the stories of real-life historical figures like Freud, Emma Goldman, and Houdini along with American families who are making their way. If you haven't read it, you should. And do seize upon the opportunity to see Doctorow read--it's been a bad couple of years for our giants (Bellow, Miller) and Doctorow deserves your respect. more ›
