Believe it or not, a museum in Salem dedicated to something macabre failed to thrive. The "40 Whacks Museum" closed 2.5 years after it opened because of high rent and utility costs during a slow season, according to owner Leonard Pickel. The Salem News was not upset to see the museum close as Borden was from Fall River. The Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast in Fall River, where Borden lived when she killed her father and stepmother in 1892 with an ax, sued Pickel's museum that was called The True Story of Lizzie Borden when it opened in 2008.
