When we live in such a city as ours, where the professional athletes are our celebrities, Bostonist finds ourselves fawning over the younger athletes (and their managers), of course. You all know our feelings about Tom Brady, but we also think quite highly of Sox manager Theo Epstein. Sure, he might have broken some young teenagers’ hearts when he reneged his offer to escort them to their senior prom…and he did toy with all of Red Sox Nation when he decided to walk away from the team as manager, only to come back months later in basically the same job he held previously. It seems that Theo is a bit of a heartbreaker, but this past week he’s decided to stop his Casanova ways and has decided to settle down with a Mrs. Epstein. more ›

The season finale has just aired for your favorite TV show. NBC hasn't run Must See TV on Thursdays for a decade. The sun is shining and temperatures will be perfect for showing up jacketless to the next performance. Something to do every night this week – and rock it out for free with the pop tunes from WBOS' EarthFest line up on Saturday, starting at noon. All this and we're tivo-ing the Sox/Yanks games... more ›

There is only so long that we’re going to be able to hold out before the entire list of the week’s picks will be outdoor venues. Well, that’ll probably never happen until they dome the roof at Paradise and we can rock under the stars. We are, however, ecstatic about the warmer temperatures and the daylight which stretches until late – it helps us gear up for the night’s show. After a weekend of... more ›

Harvard Square is hosting the Arts First/Mayfair Festival, while Somerville steps up with a massive collection of Open Studios. Who will win in a battle that pits aesthetes against…more aesthetes? Of course Bostonist will be in both places to observe the battle for best arts fair. Here’s a preview. more ›

Today we spent the day appreciating how much immigrants affect our daily lives. A sign hand-printed and posted in a local bodega's window read “Closed May 1st. A Day Without Immigrants. We are all immigrants.” Some of the best music has immigrated its way to the United States from places far and wide. Where would this week's lineup be without the rich flavor of the immigrant community? Music knows no borders. Let the decibels... more ›

We’re working for the weekend and it's only Monday. Rainy day outside and the sun is reported MIA until Wednesday. Despite the current gloom, things are looking mighty green outside - a good sign of spring. Flowering trees have done their thing and soon we’ll be smelling the lilacs. For now we’re settling for another cup of Stella while we soak up the tunes and the increasing temperatures. Monday 4/24: John Vanderslice mk Ultra... more ›

We'll call it hit or miss. Some weeks are totally on and our agenda's are filled to the brim with great stuff. Some weeks we're pulling together a bunch of shows and thinking that the list of "go see" music is surprisingly spare. Just like the weather is wonderful an warm some weeks and gloomy others. This week we've collected a number of selections that will bring some sunshine to your gloomy day - or... more ›

Admittedly we’re a little low on the Saturday evening picks for this week. Mostly because we know we’ll still be swigging green beer by the pint – or at least too hung-over from Friday night to make it out to a show. Again this week we’ve put a little classical music for those of you that feel a little culture is good for the soul. Monday 3/13: Dilated Peoples and Little Brother Rakaa, Evidence... more ›

This week we're trying hard to think about something other than how hard it is out here to be a pimp. Well, ok, maybe Bostonist is looking at the Oscars and just scratching our heads. We didn't know Jon Stewart could be that bland. We're still waiting to hear what Three 6 Mafia were wearing that made the camera all jakey last night. Now that we're done with the Academy we're looking back to Grammy.... more ›

Lent, what a time to give something up. Over here at Bostonist Headquarters we're thinking hard what we're going to drop come Wednesday. It won't be our MP3 player and it won't be live music. Maybe with this, week four of the now weekly music pick running on Monday we're going to be able to give up our lack of coverage of the local music scene. With fingers crossed we're raising a pint to forty days and forty nights with local music somewhere on the agenda. more ›
