ABC's FlashForward seemed like a perfect storm of TV, ideally crafted with big stars and big explosions to form a show the likes of which hasn't been seen since Lost went on hiatus. But we forgot to watch for a few weeks and haven't been able to start up again. Here's why we're done with FlashForward.
Lost triumphantly returned to television this week, turning even the most composed fans into shuddering masses of confused jelly. Questions abound—is Locke really dead? Who wants Aaron and why is he so important? Can Sawyer not wear a shirt for the rest of the season, please? It would be easy to write off work or school and just re-watch the show from the beginning, hopelessly taking notes and trying not to freak out over polar bear sightings. This, however, would be a mistake. Instead of wasting time on the black hole that is Lost fandom, why not try another J.J. Abrams show, Fringe?
Meet the Spartans, which is now at 3% on Rotten Tomatoes after starting off in the negative, is enjoying the number-one position at the box office this week. Meanwhile, Sylvester Stallone's comeback vehicle of-sorts, Rambo, wound up in second place.
This weekend's Hollywood blockbuster openings are even more depressing than usual, with an ancient Stallone (looking like "an overcooked Ball Park frank," according to E), a cybercrime flick, and a take on a decade-old SNL skit "leading" the pack. Rambo, Untraceable, and Meet the Spartans (which currently has a negative rating at Rotten Tomatoes, something we haven't seen very often, if ever!) will open this weekend, most likely to some box office clamor despite the high probability that all these films will send discerning viewers clamoring for the exits.
Victoria Beckham, aka "Posh" of the Spice Girls, aka Mrs. David Beckham, aka Lost Alien From the Planet of Zor, will be in Boston to promote dVb, her own sunglass and jeans line, so we hear from Bostonista at Boston Daily.
There's nothing like a loud, baseless Herald story to get the morning started right. Today's tabloid trumps Heath Ledger's death with, "BUSTED! Deval Casino Plan's Just Like Michigan's... And They Lost $10M Last year." This Bostonist happens to be wearing a Detroit Tigers cap and sweatshirt as we type this, but we don't need Michigander bias to be dismayed by the lack of evidence in their piece.

Bostonist was at a bar last night. Hey, it happens. Everything was good and fun, until the TV (sans sound) flashed a news report: "Brady Seen In Cast". We weren't around for the JFK assassination, but now we have a pretty good idea what the terrified hush that fell over the nation felt like. A couple panicked phone calls later, we weren't any closer to an explanation.
All right, we get it. Now we know that even if we check the Celtics score and see that they're up 14 on the Wizards with six minutes to go, we can't just take that for granted, switch back to the Lost Season 3 DVD and go to bed untroubled. We have to check again and make sure they sealed the deal.

Yesterday was Dice-K's first stint on the mound in regular season play. If you haven't heard by now that he pitched seven innings and had ten strike outs you probably haven't been listening. It's been all over radio, tv, and the papers. In fact ten of same letter hit the big font headlines on the newspapers this morning. Both the Boston Herald and the Boston Globe carried pretty much the same headline: “Dice-KKKKKKKKKK” (though the Herald used more hyphens and was a bit more clever with the inside story title: Nothing Lost in Translation). We’ve been digging out all day. After we held our ground on the second floor yesterday only to find that our exterior door was all but snowed shut when it was time to go to work this morning. Bostonist opened up our inbox this morning to find a message from a friend with the subject “You’re never going to believe this…” We’ll backup here and start with a preface to the story: she wasn’t going to be able to go home for the holidays. Her family exchanged gifts at Thanksgiving instead of those days of various religious, cultural, and retail significance in late December (Robertson and O’Reilly please note: for her it was a Christmas present). The smallest, most expensive gift she’d been given was a shiny new video iPod.
Last night Clap Your Hands Say Yeah packed TT the Bears full of fans eager to hear if the highly-buzzed band would live up to expectations. The show sold out weeks ago, but a lucky few scored $5 tickets outside the venue. Playing seven tracks from their self-titled debut album and introducing two songs of new material, CYHSY sounded more polished than early tour reviews indicated. They stuck to the music, engaging the crowd without anecdotal quips or stage antics.
Who wants the Super Bowl when you can have "Riot Porn" instead? Fresh from Sundance, the Lost Film Festival is hitting up three local colleges starting Sunday.
