If you like that "Lost" TV show all the kids are watching, chances are you'll want to watch tonight: it's the premiere episode of the show's sixth and (supposedly) final season. Our House is Your House this evening, at both locations: Our House East and Our House West are hosting viewing parties for the cultishly popular show. more ›

ABC's FlashForward seemed like a perfect storm of TV, ideally crafted with big stars and big explosions to form a show the likes of which hasn't been seen since Lost went on hiatus. But we forgot to watch for a few weeks and haven't been able to start up again. Here's why we're done with FlashForward. more ›

Lost triumphantly returned to television this week, turning even the most composed fans into shuddering masses of confused jelly. Questions abound—is Locke really dead? Who wants Aaron and why is he so important? Can Sawyer not wear a shirt for the rest of the season, please? It would be easy to write off work or school and just re-watch the show from the beginning, hopelessly taking notes and trying not to freak out over polar bear sightings. This, however, would be a mistake. Instead of wasting time on the black hole that is Lost fandom, why not try another J.J. Abrams show, Fringe? more ›

Meet the Spartans, which is now at 3% on Rotten Tomatoes after starting off in the negative, is enjoying the number-one position at the box office this week. Meanwhile, Sylvester Stallone's comeback vehicle of-sorts, Rambo, wound up in second place. more ›

This weekend's Hollywood blockbuster openings are even more depressing than usual, with an ancient Stallone (looking like "an overcooked Ball Park frank," according to E), a cybercrime flick, and a take on a decade-old SNL skit "leading" the pack. Rambo, Untraceable, and Meet the Spartans (which currently has a negative rating at Rotten Tomatoes, something we haven't seen very often, if ever!) will open this weekend, most likely to some box office clamor despite the high probability that all these films will send discerning viewers clamoring for the exits. more ›

Victoria Beckham, aka "Posh" of the Spice Girls, aka Mrs. David Beckham, aka Lost Alien From the Planet of Zor, will be in Boston to promote dVb, her own sunglass and jeans line, so we hear from Bostonista at Boston Daily. more ›

There's nothing like a loud, baseless Herald story to get the morning started right. Today's tabloid trumps Heath Ledger's death with, "BUSTED! Deval Casino Plan's Just Like Michigan's... And They Lost $10M Last year." This Bostonist happens to be wearing a Detroit Tigers cap and sweatshirt as we type this, but we don't need Michigander bias to be dismayed by the lack of evidence in their piece. more ›

The Somerville News reported some heartbreaking book news--McIntyre and Moore Bookstore of Davis Square, the perfect place to find literary buried treasure, is closing. more ›

Bostonist was at a bar last night. Hey, it happens. Everything was good and fun, until the TV (sans sound) flashed a news report: "Brady Seen In Cast". We weren't around for the JFK assassination, but now we have a pretty good idea what the terrified hush that fell over the nation felt like. A couple panicked phone calls later, we weren't any closer to an explanation. more ›

All right, we get it. Now we know that even if we check the Celtics score and see that they're up 14 on the Wizards with six minutes to go, we can't just take that for granted, switch back to the Lost Season 3 DVD and go to bed untroubled. We have to check again and make sure they sealed the deal. more ›

How can you not love John Williams? He has given us some of the most memorable, mesmerizing film scores in cinematic history. Superman, E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark! Films that are forever captured in multiple generations' minds and memories - and Bostonians can proudly puff out our chests and note that, given his longstanding ties to the Boston Pops, he is totally ours. So we wouldn't be surprised to know that there was a... more ›

Boston Comic Con Sunday, October 21, 10am-5pm Back Bay Events Center (180 Berkeley Street), $8 The comics industry is known for its oddballs, and Jim Steranko is a case in point. He is best known for his late sixties work at Marvel Comics, where he brought a designer's eye to drawing Nick Fury for Strange Tales. He drew across the whole page, defying panel boundaries, to a surreal effect. But comics may have been the... more ›

After a weekend of rain where all we heard was disgruntled Bostonians complaining, because that's what we do best, about the weather we rock into the week. Miraculously the Red Sox managed to play all their games this past weekend making us furiously check the forecast for WBOS' 14th annual EarthFest coming up this weekend. For us it marks the first of many outdoor events that will happen this summer, and it's Memorial Day... more ›

It's rare when we get to cross into Matt Taibbi turf, but Celtic Sebastian Telfair's gun-and-speeding charge allows us to do so. The Redux has already pointed out that Telfair didn't get the memo when he was busted for packing heat in 2006. Shira Springer points out that Telfair's latest incident in Yonkers is his "third brush with [the] law in 14 months." If only Telfair put the same amount of time in his basketball... more ›

Bostonist explained last week the challenge that is describing the Ryan Montbleau Band's multi-genre sound, noting that "one never knows what the band's going to come up with next." Odds are good that the 700 people crowded into the sold-out Paradise Rock Club on Saturday night could come up with several hundred ways to describe what they heard. When we left the club, however, we were thinking about how the homegrown band is composed of... more ›

Yesterday was Dice-K's first stint on the mound in regular season play. If you haven't heard by now that he pitched seven innings and had ten strike outs you probably haven't been listening. It's been all over radio, tv, and the papers. In fact ten of same letter hit the big font headlines on the newspapers this morning. Both the Boston Herald and the Boston Globe carried pretty much the same headline: “Dice-KKKKKKKKKK” (though the Herald used more hyphens and was a bit more clever with the inside story title: Nothing Lost in Translation). No doubt the Japanese pitching superstar has brought his fame and focus to Boston – and if he can keep up with 100% wins and a 1.29 ERA we'll be even more excited (and likely get all our furniture from Jordan's for free). more ›

Marilyn Johnson will read from The Dead Beat: Lost Souls, Lucky Stiffs, and the Perverse Pleasures of Obituaries tomorrow, Tuesday, March 6, at Harvard Book Store, 6:30 pm. You may have asked yourself how papers get obituaries published so fast. Easy. They write 'em in advance. A whole army of journalists are posted on a death watch of sorts, waiting for the moment to release the words that sum up the lives of the recently... more ›

Who wants to be inside a theater in weather like this? This evening, Bostonist won't have to choose between staying outdoors, seeing a band, and enjoying some of our favorite movies: Friday 8/11 Battleship Potemkin (Bronenosets Potyomkin) ArtsUnion brings a revolt and a sinking Russian warship to Union Square. The KNOWmovement Orchestra provides ambient lighting and a live soundtrack for Eisentein's groundbreaking silent classic. Bostonist's going to see the movies about four-letter words and zombies, but we urge you to check out the rest of Boston International Film Festival, which offers samurai, crossword puzzles, giant Buddhas, and Pixies. We’ve been digging out all day. After we held our ground on the second floor yesterday only to find that our exterior door was all but snowed shut when it was time to go to work this morning. A bit of shoveling later we’re turning to warm hearts not cold snow. There's a good week ahead of us, temperatures are due to rise, indoors and out. Dinner reservations are hard to come by for tomorrow, and $54 prix fixe is steep. Bostonist has another plan: grab a bottle of Mad Dog, a paper bag, and hop the T for one of this week’s music agenda shows: more ›

We live in an iTunes nation. It's easy to pull a track down to your pod for under a buck. Bostonist still longs for cover art, liner notes, and that masterwork that is a multi-track collection of songs we call an album. Listed here is our much discussed, unbiased by payola, top 25 albums of 2005. After the jump you'll find where some of us stand individually on the subject of the years best. (Apparently... more ›

Bostonist opened up our inbox this morning to find a message from a friend with the subject “You’re never going to believe this…” We’ll backup here and start with a preface to the story: she wasn’t going to be able to go home for the holidays. Her family exchanged gifts at Thanksgiving instead of those days of various religious, cultural, and retail significance in late December (Robertson and O’Reilly please note: for her it was a Christmas present). The smallest, most expensive gift she’d been given was a shiny new video iPod. more ›

Last night Clap Your Hands Say Yeah packed TT the Bears full of fans eager to hear if the highly-buzzed band would live up to expectations. The show sold out weeks ago, but a lucky few scored $5 tickets outside the venue. Playing seven tracks from their self-titled debut album and introducing two songs of new material, CYHSY sounded more polished than early tour reviews indicated. They stuck to the music, engaging the crowd without anecdotal quips or stage antics. more ›

Who wants the Super Bowl when you can have "Riot Porn" instead? Fresh from Sundance, the Lost Film Festival is hitting up three local colleges starting Sunday. This year's line up consists of short films, anti-corporation antics and protest footage. The Yes Men are onboard once again and Bostonist has high hopes for "Nafta dance". more ›
