You thought the Public Garden had a monopoly on adorable ducks, didn't you? Well, the garden had better make way for The WaterFire Duck, a children's book being released today in Providence (and on September 30 on Amazon). The book tells the story of a very special duck who finds her own special song at WaterFire, the Providence event that features little bonfires floating on the city's rivers. The book was written by Kiki Latimer, and illustrated by Bunny Griffeth; both were "inspired by the magic of WaterFire."

k a t m is today's Film Friday contributor. There's just something about the look of film in certain conditions, and this rainy day photo shows that. There's a softness to the grain that we just enjoy, and the scene isn't overly contrasty. The very shallow depth of field also adds to the photo and gives us some smooth bokeh, for all your bokeh-holics.

Boston police found Pack, the bronze duckling who had been swiped from the Public Garden, safe and sound on Beacon Hill, the Globe reports. Pack was not the first duckling to disappear from the public art work, and he probably will not be the last. Nonetheless, he has not been turned into crack rock, despite the sensationalistic claims of some news outlets.
