We'll never forget how Doug Mirabelli went from "the other guy" to Tim Wakefield's personal catcher. We'll never forget when he got traded, traded back, and changed into his catcher's gear while receiving a police escort today. Or the time Doug was incorrectly implicated as a fink in the mild Schilling sock controversy. We'll never forget the crack we made that, someday, Mirabelli and Wake will be buried 60' 6" from one another. And when......

The Bruins' win over Pittsburgh had a little something for everybody. It had scoring (including two by Marco Sturm), goaltending (Tim Thomas came one shot away from two straight shutouts), fighting (Milan Lucic exchanged pleasantries with Jarkko Ruutu for a good long satisfying while), and most importantly a win, which pulled the scorching-hot B's within four points of the Northeast Division lead. Kevin Paul Dupont analyzes why doing nothing might have been the best move......

There's been a lot of praise heaped on Bruins goalie Tim Thomas this year, and it's all been deserved. The guy's been a huge reason why the B's are still very much in the playoff hunt. But man is mortal, and Tim looked anything but great last night in Florida, giving up four goals in 12 shots through two periods. His defense was far from blameless, but Tim's been great at covering for their mistakes.......

So much for the idea that the thrilling shootout win over Buffalo would spark the Bruins. They followed up that great win with an official stinkeroo last night, turning a 3-2 lead into a 6-3 embarassing loss at the hands of the Panthers. Zdeno Chara, Glen Murray (yay!) and Marco Sturm scored for the B's, but then the defense broke down and Tim Thomas stopped looking like himself for a while. Bad news all around.......

The good news for the Celtics is that the Timberwolf portion of their schedule is in the history books. After surviving a 1-point game against Minnesota at home a couple of weeks ago, the C's went to the Twin Cities and pulled out a 2-point win. It started with a polite Minnesotan reaction for Kevin Garnett, who of course didn't play again but got a huge ovation from his former hometown fans. It continued with......

Ask Bill Belichick about last week's game, and you may as well be asking him about the Treaty of Ghent. Ask him about the 14-point-underdog Chargers, and you may as well be asking him about an All-Star team composed of the '85 Bears, '89 49ers and the Justice League of America. You know what you get from Coach Bill when you ask about football. But apparently, ask him about team fight songs and you hit......

The Bruins have, objectively, been pretty good this year. They're still in playoff position (it's tenuous, but still true), and have won some pretty exciting games. But for some reason, the sight of the Canadiens turns the B's into frightened little kittens, commiting penalties and hanging their goalies out to dry on power play after power play. The first power play, on a Marco Sturm elbow, led to a Montreal goal; then they scored a......

We're really glad we're not the New York Jets. Especially today. First of all, if you were a Jet, you'd have to be outside for hours and hours in this weather. Second of all, you're not a very good football team, and you are playing today against a remarkably good team. Third, you're the team whose coach finked out Bill Belichick early this year, putting the Patriots on a mission to destroy everything in their......

The Celtics are pleased to announce that they've added an extra level to the bandwagon, and it's poised to start its run tonight at the Garden against Washington. This is the original bandwagon, mind you; not the auxiliary bandwagons the team expects to roll out over the course of the season. Naysayers (and there are some) point out that the supporting cast around Ghidorah is untested and unreliable. OK, whatever. So their starting point guard,......

The Florida Panthers beat the Bruins 7 to 2. What happened? Things were looking up! Maybe they're just tired after being on the road. Or maybe stamina isn't their strong suit. At least Marco Sturm resigned for four years. Fourteen million dollars ought to help wake him up! The Bruins' loss surprised us a little bit. The Celtics' loss did not. They lost to the Jazz 87 to 105. There's a thin silver lining for......

The Bruins pounded the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-2 last night. Not only are the Bruins winning consistently, but they are getting closer to a playoff spot. A few weeks ago, this would have been inconceivable, but the Bruins continue to surprise. It's looking like Marco Sturm is close to re-signing, and Patrice Bergeron seems to be recovering from his injury. After a series of spankings, the Celtics played the LA Lakers last night, 122 to......

We are loving us some Tim Thomas. The Bruins' goalie saved the day and helped the Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 6 to 3. Keep playing like that, fellas, and we can start entertaining hopes that one of our pro sports teams will wind up in a playoff. Maybe? It's time for the Bruins to get serious with the trade deadline coming up in a week. The Globe's Fluto Shinzawa is speculating that Marco Sturm......

Bruins 3, Buffalo 2 - Apparently whatever Coach Lewis told the Bruins in the parking lot worked. After three shootouts, they finally won when Marco Sturm broke through. Celtics 96, Atlanta 100 - Ouch. At least it was close, but it was a loss to another team lurking around the lower reaches of the Eastern Conference. To play the Celtics Glad Game, the Herald had a nice piece about Doc Rivers' relationship with the family......

Well, it looks like the Sox aren’t the only Boston sports team looking to put themselves out on a limb to get some better talent. It seems that the dismal Boston Bruins have traded their sandy colored haired team captain, Joe Thornton, to the San Jose Sharks last night in a move that shocked many hockey fans. Bostonist will admit that we don’t spend enough quality time with the NHL, thus the lack of posts......
