The Boston Red Sox have scored one run in 18 innings against an Angels pitching staff that has been too hard for them to handle. The 2-0 deficit the Sox are in is even harder to deal with. We'll find out Sunday. We do know that the Red Sox have overcome a 2-0 deficit twice in a five-game series, most recently in 2003 against Oakland. Friday's 4-1 loss featured great pitching from the Angels and some textbook small-ball examples like stolen bases and hitting and running that produced runs.

It's June. June 13. The game last night was the 61st game of 2009. But, it really could have been played in October. The last two World Series champions battled in a game the Red Sox won 5-2 in 13 innings in a game that was filled with great pitching, timely hitting and error-free defense. Bostonist is making no predictions but Boston and Philadelphia, well, hey, you saw the game. Admit it. You thought it, too. The Herald did it, too.
So Bostonist was chatting up Gordon Edes, Tony Maz and Peter Gammons* on Friday and, as such, want to give you the straight scoop on this Mark Teixeira business: at some point, the highly hyped player is expected to play some sport (most likely baseball, those close to the negotiations have suggested) for an organization of professional status. It can be safely assumed that Teixeira will announce his team signing before Spring Training 2009, but that is still questionable. The single absolute certainty, however, is that agent Scott Boras is going to be able to fill a swimming pool with the dough he is going to be raking in.
