Democrat Niki Tsongas won today's race to replace Rep. Marty Meehan in the Fifth Congressional District. Tsongas, who was backed by some serious Democrat firepower, defeated Republican Jim Ogonowski. Ogonowski put up a fight when it came to percentages. Tsongas had 51 percent of the vote, while Ogonowski had 45 percent. The special election to replace Rep. Marty Meehan in the Fifth Congressional District will be tomorrow. The candidates are Democrat Niki Tsongas and Republican Jim Ogonowski. --Tom Finneran of WRKO tried to join the Britney Spears VMA Performance Conversation. His input, which he probably thought was witty and snappy, left everyone just feeling uncomfortable. The campaign received those funds when 169 overzealous patrons gave a little too much money. Patrick's campaign director, Liz Morningstar, said that the campaign raised $7.9 million total. So if there were only $50,000 worth of errors among all that, that's not half bad. Another campaign spokesman, Bruce Crawford, told the... more ›

At one point or another, a New Englander is bound to ponder Tom Brady's sex life. He's handsome, talented, and rich, the Ken doll of the NFL. Of course he's scored some mattress touchdowns. But Kevin Thompson, candidate for Marty Meehan's empty spot in the 5th Congressional district, thinks Brady needs to keep his pants zipped. Thompson had a lot to say about Brady's recent interview with Details magazine: What kind of world is this... more ›

Academia never seemed like the kind of setting for straight-up catfights, but UMass appears to be the exception. Not everyone is happy with the shakeup of the state's education system, which involved UMB chancellor Michael Collins moving to U-Mass-Worcester to be interim medical school chancellor and Keith Motley taking his spot. Yesterday, at the UMass medical school, physiology professor John Walsh and deputy medical school chancellor Richard Stanton let off some steam. Walsh had said... more ›
