--Leading off with a happy story: officers in East Boston responded to a car where a woman was in labor. After her water broke in their presence, the police helped deliver the baby, put the baby in a blanket, checked that the baby was breathing properly, and then made sure the family arrived safely at Mass General Hospital. Somebody deserves a raise. [BPD News] --Authorities are investigating a string of robberies targeting illegal immigrants......

--Some of those who treated the Big Dig like one big, fat ATM are finally getting their just desserts. Yesterday, a Big Dig contractor was charged with trying to overcharge the government by $300,000. They've agreed to plead guilty. [Boston Globe] --Things are getting hotter for Superior Court Judge Richard T. Moses. The Herald is ticking off a list of sex offenders he set free who then went on to commit more crimes. [Boston......

Holy moly! An MBTA driver suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the 119 Northgate - Beachmont bus in Revere this morning. According to the Globe, the bus hit a parked car, three utility poles, a fire hydrant, a fire box, a tree and the sign for St. Mary's Church before skidding across a lawn and finally stopping against a guard rail. Not for nothin', that's wicked scary. Speaking of St. Mary, it was......

It's baaaaaack. Norovirus has brought "gastrointestinal misery" to Brigham and Women's, Mass General, and Children's Hospital Boston daycare, according to the Globe. People aren't washing their hands as much as they should be, and norovirus loves dirty hands. Last year at this time, 3,700 people went to local emergency rooms thanks to norovirus. Since we're experiencing déjà vu, we'll go all out and repeat the tips we read from the CDC on fighting norovirus: --Frequently......

--Eunice Kennedy Shriver, sister of Ted Kennedy and JFK, mother to Maria Shriver, and mother-in-law to Arnold Schwarzenegger, has been hospitalized at Mass General, although no one is saying why. She is 86. [Boston Globe] --Today marks the last day of Bob's Southern Bistro and the opening of some generic swanky watering hole. [WBZ] --With the departure of the infamous Mark Flomenbaum, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is disinfecting its hazardous practices by......

The seemingly invincible Ted Kennedy has left Mass General after his surgery to repair a partially blocked artery in his neck. His recovery sounded a lot like what Cindy of the Brady Bunch went through after she had her tonsils taken out: "By Friday afternoon, doctors said Senator Kennedy was sitting up, eating ice cream and drinking ginger ale. He planned to watch the Red Sox game Friday night." Even though they won Friday night,......

Neither Sophie Currier nor the National Board of Medical Examiners are going to back down. Even though Currier won an appeal to get extra time to take a medical exam so she could pump breast milk, the Board appealed the appeal. In reaction to the appeal of the appeal, the Massachusetts appeals court "temporarily voided" the pro-breast-feeding ruling handed down by Judge Gary Katzmann. They've done all the mulling they need to do, and they've......

OK, Tedy Bruschi is not dead. Our Redux has it covered. But how on earth did this Bruschi-Is-Dead mess get started? Someone contacted Fox 25. And all hell broke loose somehow. Tom Curran at the NBC Sports blog put the rumor to rest. And then he changed his post a little bit. An astute observer in the comments noted what Curran took out: Why'd you take out the earlier reference to Fox 25 in Boston?......

Update: Tom Brady fans can settle down. Instead of having him there in person, Brady's testimony was read to the jury. Monday saw the opening arguments in the Charlie Weis gastric bypass medical malpractice trial. Weis is suing two local doctors, Charles Ferguson and Richard Hodin, because he suffered internal bleeding and still has trouble getting around after his gastric bypass in 2002 at Mass General. If this seems familiar, it should. The case already......

Although Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis has moved on from the Pats, he is at the center of a high-profile malpractice case that will go to trial next month – and Pats QB Tom Brady will be a star witness. During his stint as the Pats' offensive coordinator, Weis decided to have gastric bypass surgery in 2002. Weis was a big fella and didn't like how he looked. There's even a blog out there......

In this week’s News & Opinions’ “Weekly Dig” Editor Joe Keohane delves into the heated controversy over Intelligent Design (ID). It’s been difficult to escape the term Intelligent Design, a variation on “Creationism,” in popular media’s discourse. In recent weeks the Kansas Board of Education voted in favor of teaching ID, causing many, including Keohane to cite Kansas’ history with teaching evolution in public schools. The infamous John Scopes debacle of 1925 when the high......

Hey Bostonist, I ditched my car about a month ago and have been biking everywhere I used to take my car. It's been great, don't get me wrong, definitely the way to get around the geographically small and relatively hill-free city is by bike. I'm a little uneasy though: your horror stories of getting hit, almost getting run over by the UPS man, and getting ticketed don't really help. I wonder if you could......

Near neither Harvard, nor a garden, Harvard Gardens boasts a great singles scene and a warm romantic candlelit atmosphere. Located off the Charles MGH T-stop this Beacon Hill location is right outside of the Mass General Hospital. As a note, the Harvard Gardens' website is a tad bit disorganized. The directions page is blank, save for a MapQuest map. The menu page has navigation buttons only, an included the purported "Nightly Specials" page filled with......

Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi was released from Mass General Hospital yesterday afternoon after what doctors have diagnosed as mild stroke. He was admitted on Wednesday after complaining of headaches, blurred vision, as well as being numb on one side of his body; tests were able to show that he suffered a mild form of a stroke. While the people of Boston are happy to see him healthy enough to walk out of the hospital on......

The top news story last night at 11 p.m. was that Patriots' linebacker and one of the fan favorites, Tedy Bruschi, was at Mass General Hospital because of horrible headaches. A Patriots'spokesperson confirmed it with this statement to the media: "He is in good condition and will be held for further evaluations. The Bruschi family appreciates everyone's concern, but requests that you respect their privacy at this time." Bruschi, age 31 and with the Pats......
