A 5.8 earthquake hit 83 miles southwest of Washington, D.C., in Mineral, Virginia around 2 p.m. on Tuesday and was felt up-and-down the Eastern Seaboard, even in Boston. The quake was felt in Boston and forced the evacuation of US District Court in South Boston and the UMass Boston campus in Dorchester.
