It seems for some reason, Tom Brady and Randy Moss don't want to take a 6,000 mile flight this week and be reminded of Sunday's crushing disappointment. Brady's ankle issues are well-documented, of course, but Randy is feeling sympathy pain and is skipping the trip to Hawaii as well. So the Pro Bowl will have to go on without them. Tissues all around. The fallout is still...well, falling. The Patriots have to decide how much......

There are plenty of reasons to like Doc Rivers right now. Twenty-eight reasons, actually. But we wish we could kindly remind Rivers and the Celtics that you have to focus on winning the little games in order for the big games to mean anything. The Celts welcomed Memphis onto the TD Banknorth Garden floor on Friday night and nearly opened the door for the Grizzlies to win. Ray Allen struggled (two points overall) and, while......

Elvis Presley died this week, 30 years ago, on August 16, 1977. Boston is making like Memphis by holding various tributes to the King. First on the list is Mayor Menino's Movie Night on the Common. Tonight, the city will show Jailhouse Rock for free. The festivities will include a costume contest, and we're dying to find out if Menino will step into a sequined jumpsuit and throw on a pompadour wig. That we would......

Forget the 2008 Presidential Race for now. The biggest decision any voter can make right now is the one forced on us by Major League Baseball. Since the All-Star game is in San Francisco, a National League park, the designated hitter is not an option. Which means the Red Sox had to designate David Ortiz to be in the First Baseman section of the All-Star ballot. Which means Kevin Youkilis is on the outside looking......

April Fool's Day is on the Horizon, but we ain't foolin this week. A solid line up of shows – starting with the Tourfilter DJ Night at River Gods – is ahead. It's mid-week heavy this time around so kick it like a rock star and be thankful you can sleep in on Saturday. Monday, 3/26 TourFilter Mixtape Tourfilter founder Chris Marstall will be at River Gods in Cambridge equipped with an evening full......

--Red Sox center fielder Coco Crisp is making the publicity rounds to remind everyone that he is back and ready to play after being hampered with a busted finger. He is also saying that he doesn't care what you, the fan, think about him: "I don’t care if people think I suck or they think I’m good. I just go out there and have fun, and hopefully the ball falls. . . . If the......

You probably read yesterday that Jonathan Papelbon will, in fact, be the Red Sox closer this year, and probably for years to come. Why they didn't just announce this at the beginning of camp, when we all suspected this was going to happen eventually, is beyond us. But we still love the idea of players blogging, if it means Dan Shaughnessy will fade further into irrelevance. The bad news in Fort Myers is that......

Sure, you can spend your time dealing with the celebrity implications of Tom Brady's recent...prolific spree. But at Bostonist Sports, we're really looking forward to that 2031 NFL Draft. We can just see Mel Kiper III now, projecting that 12 of the first 13 picks will be quarterbacks with Tom Terrific's championship DNA. (The other pick will be the Detroit Lions, who will still be looking for a top-flight WR for Charlie Batch Jr. to......

We really aren't sure where this came from. It seems like the stereotypes portrayed below have been applied to areas around St. Louis, Florida, Memphis, Detroit, among other US geographic locations. It came to us via email, un-attributed to the author (email us, we'll give you credit), and humorously rang true for some of the locations integrated into the list. Suggestions for the South Boston Barbie (both original model and Fort Point edition), Cantabrigian Barbie,......

The Celtics had a chance to win last night. The Minnesota Timberwolves lost to the Memphis Grizzlies, for crying out loud. They could have taken this one. And they almost did, were it not for sloppy play in the last moments that put the ball in the hands of former Celtic Ricky Davis, who nailed a shot with 0.2 seconds left and helped the T-Wolves beat the Celtics 109 to 107, continuing the Celtics' 18-game......

The Celtics lost their 17th straight game. On the bright side, Paul Pierce was back on the court. On the downside, it didn't help. They lost 92 to 78. It would have been okay if the game were somewhat close, as many of the Celtics' losses have been, but this should have been closer. The Globe's Peter May called the game a "stinkbomb" and noted that the Celtics are now No. 30 because the Memphis......

Wasn't "Green 17" the Celtics' marketing slogan a few years ago? This might have been in the years before "This Train Is Bound For Glory" and after "Who Needs a Slogan? We're Actually A Good Team". But when they were pitching "Green 17", they weren't reminiscing about Hondo (right), they were telling us #17 was around the corner. Here, we thought they meant BANNER #17. But now we have to face the fact that......

Why ramble? We've got shows to get out and see. We could put up a whole narrative about the state we were left in after NEMO and BeanTown Jazz swept through this weekend. But not now. Monday 10/2 Built to Spill with Helvetia Built to Spill delivers Indie Rock from when they first hit our radar on college radio and they actually were an indie band. They've been with Warner Bros. for what seems......

LAist has so much fun this week! They go to E3, where they overhear the timeless remark "Man, this is where nerdy girls get laid." Is that a promise? They also give us this week's best CDs and make us realize that LA is the best place to use Zillow. Ah, Houstonist. They're biking to work, that is, if they can figure out how to get there. That's right, Mapquest says "Houston had the......

After a weekend of green, beer, and basketball, Bostonist is drained. It all started for us 10 years ago when our Western Mass. roots were honored as UMass Amherst team went to the Final Four with Coach Cal. and Marcus Camby (who later cost the Final Four standing for “improper gifts” – jewelry and prostitutes). Since then we’ve faithfully filed out our brackets each season. Sometimes we pick the underdogs for an upset and sometimes......
