The Globe reported that the Metro was shrinking, and Joe Keohane at Boston Daily noted that the Globe got details wrong. Then the Metro trumped that little blunder by reporting that the Globe was planning "hundreds" of layoffs and would raise the price of the paper to 75 cents.

--On Saturday, some alleged whack-job trying to get a piece of Star Simpson glory told an AirTran employee at Logan Airport, "I'm with al-Qaeda. I'm with them and I'm here to blow up things." Hardy har. Those words earned 27-year-old Ermiyas Asfaw, from DC, a one-way trip to jail. Attention, world: You may be able to do whatever you want in other cities, but Boston is sensitive. We may not agree with their hypersensitivity, but...
Seattlest watches as a S.L.U.T. is born and Seattle Flickr users go nuts over a local art installation. A restaurant critic demands a Diner's Bill of Rights over a gnat next to her drink, and, in lieu of a Portlandist, Seattlest debates with itself over the identity of the Northwest's crown jewel. Seattlest also joins the guys from Fantagraphics for an ill-fated gun party in the woods. LAist saw national headlines soar this week with...
After the total lunar eclipse spiced up the night sky this past weekend we've got enough of the visuals. This week we're committed not to go see live music but to go hear live music. This week we're welcoming a few new contributors to the list, have a listen, will ya? Monday 3/5 Badly Drawn Boy It's okay to admit to liking British singer-songwriter Damon Gough, aka Badly Drawn Boy. He may write lyrics...
The Red Sox have us all dreaming. Dreaming of warmer weather. Dreaming of baseball. Dreaming of the Fall Classic. We're just a week and a half away from the first matchup of the spring training opening match up – so there is a lot of time to consume with daydreaming about baseball. Because we don't have enough vacation time to spend the entire spring training season in Ft. Meyers we'll have to rely on...
Sunday. Usually, a quiet, contemplative day in the Blogosphere. But not here in the Ist-a-Verse. Nonono! Just look below and see all of the wild and crazy stuff our staffs are up to. In Austin, bands are beginning to confirm for SXSW and the rumor mill is up and running. Good thing, too, because we all know how much Austinites love live performances. Austin also found itself in the national spotlight, with Longhorn Legend...
The New England Patriots can't seem to get enough of the courtroom. Tom Brady filed suit against Yahoo! for using his image for their Fantasy Football promotion, and the Patriots also used an obscure Massachusetts anti-scalping law to file suit against Bay Area company StubHub.com, which allows Patriots ticket holders to resell their tickets at a profit.
We asked the new voice on the Boston Arts blogging scene a few questions on how he got Morrissey Blvd. to lend him a corner of the web, and what he thought of the other characters in the local arts blog scene. Full wrap up follows after the jump.
Media man Rupert Murdoch is ruffling some feathers here in Boston as a Globe columnist reported today that he’s looking to print the ever-classy NY Post here in Massachusetts. Why bother printing up here in Boston, you ask? Murdoch owned the Herald until 1994 when he was forced to sell the paper after federal law said he couldn’t own two media outlets in one market. He sold it to Pat Purcell, who had been running the Herald for the previous 10 years for him and continues in that roll now as owner of Herald Media, Inc. Although Purcell and Murdoch were once on the same team, it looks like Murdoch is looking to take his new business over to Morrissey Boulevard. He’s in negotiations to have the Boston Globe start printing 30,000-40,000 copies a day of the Post and they’ll be distributed using the Globe delivery service.
Will someone please give Alex Beam a copy of Boston Common? Last week the Globe’s lifestyle columnist Alex Beam published what appeared to be an open letter to Jason Binn, head honcho at Niche Media and publisher of Boston Common magazine. The column amused us only because we love sarcasm and anything to do with publisher/personage battles. Last week’s column requests a copy of the hefty mag (even though Beam didn’t make the $250k annually...
