Beachgoers, State Trooper Matthew Waples, and Hull/Hingham animal control officer Leslie Badger saved a 14-year old silky terrier named Foxy from drowning, believe it or not, at the hands of her owner. Barbara O’Driscoll, 60, of Cohasset, allegedly dragged the 12-pound pooch into the water at Nantasket Beach in Hull. Witnesses alerted Trooper Waples who brought the animal control officer in to care for Foxy. Waples said O’Driscoll said "It's just a dog." Badger performed CPR and "mouth-to-snout" resuscitation en route to the VCA South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. Foxy is still being treated there with oxygen therapy, IV fluids and antibiotics. O’Driscoll pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty, disorderly conduct and violating a ban on dogs at Hingham District Court on Wednesday. She allegedly admitted to drinking several glasses of wine. She's due in court on August 29. [Herald], [WCVB]
