We know the Red Sox have an impressive interleague record (12-5 before Sunday's game in San Francisco) in 2010, and seeing the Nava Nation coalesce this weekend in SF was full of goodness. But, the thrill of playing National League wore off quickly on Saturday as we learned of Dustin Pedroia's broken foot and then watched in horror as Clay Buchholz gimped around the bases in a 4-2 win. more ›

Heya Bostonist, I am a hypothetical Chicago Cubs fan who has just moved to Boston from another large city, where I liked to watch the Cubs among fellow fans. In fact, my old city had a Cubs bar, where Cubs fans would go to watch our team lose all the big games. But, in Boston, I had to watch the Diamondbacks sweep the Cubs in the NLDS all by myself. Where do Boston's Cubs fans... more ›

In the bid to make 2007 the first season when all four LDS's were sweeps, the National League took care of business yesterday. The Rockies bid adieu to Philly, while the Diamondbacks went to Wrigley and broke Cub fans' hearts for the 99th straight season. Which, if you're a Red Sox fan, at least means that when we win the World Series, at least we won't do it on the back of long-suffering Philly or... more ›

In between the drama of a pennant race and the pressure cooker of the playoffs, comes a day like today. A day when absolutely nothing is up for grabs. Yesterday the Red Sox won and the Indians lost, guaranteeing the Red Sox the best record in the AL (they'd win a tiebreaker with Cleveland) and Fenway-advantage throughout the postseason. The win yesterday (you might want to sit down) came largely thanks to J.D. Drew, who... more ›

Dare we say things are starting to click at the right time? The Red Sox finished off Oakland with an 11-6 win. Now only a monumental collapse (look upward; no lightning) will keep the Red Sox from celebrating an AL East clinchin' party in the next day or two. The Sox smacked Oakland largely due to the bat of Mike Lowell, who collected five of his 116 RBIs (a Red Sox 3B record) on a... more ›

This should be fun. The best team in the American League against the best team in the National League. Two of the greatest pitching matchups we'll see all season. A glimpse of old friend David Wells. It's not that crazy to say the Red Sox and Padres will be eyeing each other with visions of an October rematch dancing in their heads. Daisuke Matsuzaka goes tonight in the first game. So this will be his... more ›

Remember J.D. Drew? David Jonathan "J.D." Drew, 31 years old, plays right field, graduated from Florida State? more ›

Forget the 2008 Presidential Race for now. The biggest decision any voter can make right now is the one forced on us by Major League Baseball. Since the All-Star game is in San Francisco, a National League park, the designated hitter is not an option. Which means the Red Sox had to designate David Ortiz to be in the First Baseman section of the All-Star ballot. Which means Kevin Youkilis is on the outside looking... more ›

If any doubt remained that this Commonwealth is the epicenter of wicked-smahtness, let that doubt be dispelled: A carpenter and a supermarket deli counter employee played a game of Scrabble at the Lexington Scrabble Club on October 12 in which the loser scored 490 points and the winner scored 830. This game broke the record for most total points in an officially sanctioned, competetive game (1,320), most points by one player (830) and most points from a single word (365, for quixotry - which means "quixotism; visionary schemes"). more ›

Bostonist was on hand for last night's return of Pedro Martinez to the mound. To say that the environment was electric is a colossal understatement. There was one thing the people who showed up were there to see - and that's Pedro. People wanted to cheer him on the way to the bullpen to warm up, on his way back to the dugout, on his way to the mound for the bottom half of the fifth, and off the mound after getting tattooed for 8 runs (6 of which were earned - the other two we had Lastings Milledge to thank). It should not be left as a footnote to mention that Josh Beckett went out there to maintain his status as (one of) the current ace(s) and pitched his brains out. Even if Pedro brought his A game it would have been a tough night for the Mets to pull out a win. more ›

If you thought that our Red Sox fans believing in a curse was strange, then you might think that Chicagoians have lost it. Claiming that their curse is still in effect since the foul ball deflected off Cub fan Steve Bartman during Game Six in the National League Championship Series in 2003, Chicago is doing something about it. Harry Caray's Restaurant, named after legendary Chicago broadcaster of the White Sox and then Cubs for years,... more ›
