Whatever ailed the Patriots a week ago in Buffalo vanished in a convincing 31-19 victory on the road against the Raiders on Sunday. Tom Brady reverted to his error-free play with an efficient 16-30, 226-yard performance that included two more touchdown passes. While Brady's interception-free game gets the headlines, the Patriots benefitted from a balanced offensive attack. Oakland led early, by a 10-7 score early in the second quarter. The Patriots, who gained 184 yards on the ground, scored the next 17 points thanks to rushing touchdowns from BenJarvus Green-Ellis (75 yards) and Stevan Ridley (97 yards), and a field goal from Stephen Gostkowski. more ›

The newest of Boston's starters salvaged the Red Sox only win in their last five starts as Sunday's game in Pittsburgh went in the visitors favor by a 4-2 score. Andrew Miller (1-0) pitched six innings and allowed two runs on five hits for his first win in a Red Sox uniform. The Red Sox bullpen held the Pirates scoreless for three innings. Alfredo Aceves, Daniel Bard, and Jonathan Papelbon also didn't allow a hit. Paplebon eared his 14th save. Nearly flawless pitching was necessary as Boston's offense was unproductive once more. They mustered six hits, but benefited from four Pittsburgh errors and two sacrifice flies. more ›

The struggling Bruins scored four unanswered goals to earn a 4-1 win over New Jersey, just the team's second victory in their last eight games. Zdeno Chara powered the Bruins with the game-winning goal, on a power play, and assists on two others after the Devils led 1-0. Milan Lucic scored his 30th goal to seal the win in the third period. Tomas Kaberle and Patrice Bergeron each added two assists. Tim Thomas had 30 saves. more ›

History was made at the TD Garden last night as Ray Allen broke the NBA record for three-point field goals made in a career with two first quarter treys for a total of 2,561. He added a third three-pointer for 2,562 in his career. Allen's good fortune didn't matter as the Lakers came from behind to win 92-86. more ›

Is there ever a time to see the Yankees? Despite a 7-3 mark in their last 10 games, this weekend didn't look like a very appetizing time to visit the NYC in a have-to-have series for the Red Sox after injuries to Kevin Youkilis, and Hideki Okajima - could be addition by subtaction, we know - make this team seem cursed. Not that curse, Dan. more ›

Interleague play is upon us and it begins in Philadelphia against the Phillies. This is perfect timing because playing the Rays and Yankees is so easy that the Red Sox need more good teams to compete with. Things were going so well for the Red Sox. A three-game winning streak that included a two-game sweep of Minnesota at least made us feel better about our underacheiving club. Thank Jon Lester for Thursday's 6-2 win. Lester, who reportedly owns the best winning percentage (.719) ever for a pitcher with at least 100 starts, completed the game after allowing six hits and striking out nine. Kevin Youkilis powered the offense with four RBI. more ›

Let's try be positive. After four games in 2010, the Red Sox starters haven't lost a game. Joe West is happy tonight. We tried. For the third consecutive game, the Sox bullpen failed to hold a lead, and the club lost a 4-3 decision. Daniel Bard allowed a two-run single to Rick Ankiel, who advanced to second on the throw, in the 8th inning to put the Royals ahead for good at 4-3. Ankiel killed the Sox with a 4-4, three RBI effort. Tim Wakefield began his 16th season with the Boston Red Sox on the mound in Kansas City. He shut the Royals out through five innings and completed seven innings of work by allowing two runs on six hits with six strikeouts. Wakefield checked almost every Royals batter except Ankiel and his 3-3 effort against the knuckleballer. more ›

Nothing lasts forever, certainly not an unbeaten NBA season. The Boston Celtics lost for the first time this season on Friday, dropping a 110-103 decision to the Phoenix Suns, who lost their first game on Wednesday. For a close game, the Suns were in control most of the way. The NBA's top two shooting teams didn't disappoint the crowd. The Celtics shot 51.7% from the field. Phoenix finished 13-24, or 54.2%, on three-pointers. more ›

Like we said on Monday, the New England Revolution came through with a win against the Chicago Fire in their first MLS playoff game of the season on Sunday. Bostonist was there to watch and came away with a couple of photos. The Revs face Chicago again on Saturday, this time in the Windy City. Play was sloppy at times in the first match. Though the first goal was made on a sweet header by Emmanuel Osei, the team's second goal (by Shalrie Joseph) came only after what seemed like hours of muddled chaos in front of the net. Let's hope the team can pull it together this weekend with some strong passing and smart shots. more ›

Bostonist was walking past the hustle and bustle of Fenway Park on Friday afternoon when we finally identified that nagging feeling that had been with us ever since the Park Street station. We had seen more Baltimore Orioles jerseys, hats and T-shirts in an hour than we saw all day when we traveled to Camden Yards last season! What was going on? Everyone knows that the orange-accented Baltimore ballpark is known fondly in Red Sox... more ›

Last week the teams-named-for- historical-episodes battled it out in Foxboro, and the New England Revolution put Chicago’s Fire out. Bostonist was left thinking to ourselves wouldn’t it have been hilarious if the “molasses flood” put the fire out. Well, that and it’s like the World Series of soccer. Well, almost the World Series of soccer, if we discount the World Cup, Euro Cup, the European Premier leagues, the South American leagues, and just about any... more ›
