This weekend, as we know, Boston was host to the first annual PAX East gaming convention, the much-anticipated East Coast followup to the original PAX. The sold-out show brought thousands of game enthusiasts right into the heart of Boston to take over the Hynes Convention Center. The ceremonies kicked off with the roar of the crowd on Friday afternoon, when Wil Wheaton (of Star Trek: The Next Generation and Big Bang Theory fame) delivered an inspiring keynote speech, over which he'd labored extensively. The talk set the tone for a feeling of camaraderie (which sometimes seems in short supply in Boston, outside the drunken revelry of Sox games) that endured for the weekend. Mr. Wheaton's inspiring performance was followed by a few words from PAX creators Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, also known as Tycho and Gabe, from the web comic Penny Arcade. (A little Action Castle, anyone?)

--Instead of saving up their allowance, pulling out some teeth for the Tooth Fairy, or asking Santa, three kids allegedly plotted a Nintendo Wii heist. The kids broke into a house on Chandler Street, but the owner came home and saw a 12-year-old girl in medias res, with the Wii in her hands. The owner grabbed the girl while her so-called friends, a 12-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy, tried to escape. The BPD was...
Only 312 shopping days left until Christmas. The new Nintendo Wii was one of the hot console commodities this last season – and it's still not in stock with regularity everywhere. The Wii has been modded, recalled, and turned into a new weight loss craze since the release late last year. The folks at FindNearby.net are helping you find what you're looking for with great immediacy. They're running the basic site that will map out where you can find a certain item for sale on amazon, ebay, craigslist, and local retailers like best buy, circuit city, wal-mart and target who have the item in stock. They've got a couple of special searches that will give you radius rings around your location showing you all the points inside the given area. The search defaults to Boston, which is somewhat helpful here. To find the nearest Wii console browse over to wii.findnearby.net and pump up the power of the Wii seeker. They've got a special search for the PS3 as well. Either search is perhaps the best way we've found to find something when you really need it right now.
This little gem came in on the tip line over lunch So what's filled with over 10,000 gallons of water and in Boston metro area? If you guessed "AQUARIUM." You're right. If you guessed "Best Buy at Cambridgeide." You're also right! As it turns out 10,000 gallons is a lot less than we thought, an Olympic Swimming Pool holds quite a bit more. 10,000 gallons (an imprecise calculation – probably more likely on the scale of...

In a world where there's nothing to do but watch movies. In a city full of theaters, museums, and libraries. One moviegoer who can be in three places at once. Wednesday 3/29: Thank You For Smoking Bostonist saw Thank You For Smoking last week. We were impressed with its clever writing and relentless bipartisan satire, and even more impressed that it managed to be heavy-handed and cynical to the point of pointlessness. And even more...
