State Police and Burlington Police detained a man who appeared to match the description of a man carrying a rifle in the Nordstrom's at Burlington Mall on Tuesday. Police arrived at 10 a.m. to search the mall and surrounding area. The mall was evacuated. The suspect was reportedly "a short, Caucasian man wearing a gray shirt...carrying a backpack." No injuries were reported. John Hurst of the Massachusetts Retailers Association said mall security has been increased lately. Last night, Nordstrom held a charity opening gala for its second Boston-area store at the Burlington Mall to raise money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, The Junior League of Boston and The Links, Incorporated. 1300 people attended last night’s event and helped raise $160,000 for the Boston-based charities.
