As of about 6:30 p.m. tonight, 112,000 Massachusetts electric customers were still without power. There are 83,000 National Grid clients in the dark, mostly in the Attleboro and Scituate areas, along with 29,000 NSTAR customers in South Shore, Cape Cod, and the Metro West towns. Our winter of wacky weather has now turned to lightning and wind, after snow and cold and hot temperatures. The wind caused almost 15,000 homes in Massachusetts to have no electricity around noon today. Two JetBlue planes headed to Logan Airport from Tampa and Baltimore were struck by lightning Friday. Both flights landed without incident. more ›

A second carbon monoxide related incident happened in Massachusetts last night. Firefighters evacuated four single-family homes on Bolton Street in South Boston because of high CO readings. The Boston Fire Department reached the scene at 9:15 p.m. and learned NStar traced the problem to a burning underground cable. Nobody was injured. An eight-year old Quincy boy died of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. [Globe] more ›

We read about Northeast Utilities' acquisition of NStar on Monday. Today, Universal Hub reported that the first stockholder lawsuit has already been filed. That was quick. We scanned the complaint and found lots of references to "fiduciary" and some latin-type words in it. more ›

-- A criminal assault and battery charge will be filed against an Arlington Catholic High School football player after he allegedly headbutted a player from Abington High School in a game in September. There is no arraignment date set yet. The victim's lawyer said the Arlington Catholic player "took his helmet off and headbutted him." The suspect's lawyer, Ronald A.
