--Don't mess with the elderly in this city. They are not easy targets. A guy found that out when he tried to steal an old woman's purse at the Downtown Crossing T stop. On Wednesday night, Christopher Linehan, 29, of Dorchester, tried to snatch the purse of the unidentified 79-year-old woman. Neither party would let go of the purse, so Linehan tried dragging the woman to one of the black turnstiles. Good Samaritans started blocking... more ›

It's official – police are now cracking down on the Common. The bullet in the State House, public OD's, and freaked-out tourists pushed the city brass over the edge, and the BPD is making a move. Now, the BPD will be enforcing curfew on the Common, which means people are required to "move on" from whatever legal or illegal activity they are up to at 11 pm. more ›

While SFist cringed at the fatal dose of crime littering the Bay Area, it found solace in Hillary Clinton's San Francisco campaign headquarters opening, which featured loads of exposed mammary glands. In other news, SF Taxi Commission ruled that Satan's cab must keep its (in)famous medallion number, 666; and in an un-fashion-forward frenzy, San Francisco Fashion Week (chortle) bars bloggers from covering and getting smashed at their shows and parties, respectively. Also, they found a... more ›

--A restaurant owner was attacked in his own establishment yesterday afternoon in Jamaica Plain. Was it a holdup? A robbery? A grudge? No. He got in a fight with a customer over the remote control. The customer somehow got the remote control and began to "mess around" with the channels and wouldn't stop. Maybe he was looking for the spelling bee finals. Anyway, the owner told him to cut it out, and "the suspect... more ›

On Wednesday evening the Museum of Science hosts a moderated discussion in your first life about the second life. Assistant Professor of New Media Eric Gordon of Emerson College moderates a discussion with John Freeman, an artist in Second Life, Pathfinder Linden, community manager for Linden Lab, and Wagner James Au, an embedded journalist in Second Life. While you might not age in Second Life and flying is par for the course, three dimensions and capitalism still thrive in the virtual world just as they do in real life. Once users create an avatar and an persona (name selections are limited, so be ready to give your true identity a break) you can do pretty much anything. Art galleries, lectures, classes, people watching in the park, nonprofit agency advocacy, showcases of new commercial processes, and everything we've never thought of yet are all possible interactions in Second Life. more ›

--The guy who threatened another Virginia Tech because he got dumped has been arraigned. Andrew Rosenblum must stay at his parents' home in Needham, and he has to wear a GPS monitoring device. BU and Wheelock College, the school that the recipients of his threatening e-mail attended, have banned him from their campuses. His lawyer called him an "immature young man." Indeed. Rosenblum is getting attention not just because he did something incredibly stupid. He... more ›
