--A truck crashed on the Revere Beach Parkway last night. No one was hurt, but the incident shut down the parkway in both directions. According to WBZ, "State police officials said a truck went under the overpass on Route 107 North heading toward Chelsea and smashed into the top of the Route 16 bridge, bringing concrete down onto the roadway and damaging Route 16." The road has since been reopened. [WBZ, WHDH] --Two suspects......

After a weekend of rain where all we heard was disgruntled Bostonians complaining, because that's what we do best, about the weather we rock into the week. Miraculously the Red Sox managed to play all their games this past weekend making us furiously check the forecast for WBOS' 14th annual EarthFest coming up this weekend. For us it marks the first of many outdoor events that will happen this summer, and it's Memorial Day......

Tuesday was a difficult day for the city of Boston. How frequently do you find yourself having to choose between the Clipse and This American Life? More importantly, how do you choose? Pusha or Dan Savage? Malice or Kori Gardner? The Reupgang or Ira's Gang? The Middle East tried to mitigate these concerns by adding a Monday Clipse show several weeks out, but it was too little, too late for those who'd already bought......

This American Life Live! will be at the Boston Opera House at 8:00 pm tonight. This American Life, the beloved radio show syndicated on NPR, is going on a multimedia blitz. To celebrate the television version of its radio program, which will air on Showtime, Ira Glass and some of his show's popular guests, including Sarah Vowell, Dan Savage, and Jonathan Goldstein, will speak at the Boston Opera House tonight. As icing on the cake,......

Some might say that the downturn came when they dumped "The Nutcracker" in favor of "Radio City Christmas Spectacular", while others could counter it has more to do with the dumbing of America, but today may mark the darkest day yet in the history of Boston's performing arts culture. They're renaming the Wang Center for the Performing Arts. Although we don't like to admit it, inside every Bostoninan lurks a 12-year old boy who stifles......

Sorry about the title, we just couldn’t refrain from using a pun in Boston’s English. The show’s been open for just over a week now on its stop in the Hub as part of the 2006 tour. We’ve only heard positive reviews. It actually seems like everyone Bostonist has run into this morning went to see Wicked over the weekend. The snippets of commentary include: "costumes were great", "sets real good", "what’s the deal with......

AnimaminA is a very brief introduction to Amina, for those who haven’t already become familiar with their steady job touring as opening act and string section for fellow Icelanders Sigur Ros. They’ll be back with Sigur Ros again on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the Orpheum. From the immediate tinkering of “Shakka” on the instrumental 4-song debut EP, Amina clearly stake out more impressionistic territory than your typical rock outfit. Especially considering that this is a......

Although (this) Bostonist is not a fan of the Holiday time productions of "The Nutcracker" or "A Christmas Carol", even we can admit that there is a certain something about them which signals the beginning of all things wintry. You can currently purchase tickets for Boston Ballet's production of "The Nutcracker" for $18.50 through ArtsBoston (part of which goes towards the restoration fund for the Opera House). Keep in mind that these for the......

Bostonist was surprised to read the Boston Herald headline “Hotline: Get a crack at ‘The Nutcracker’.” From recent features in the Herald we’ve come to expect more racy headlines like “Get Crack at ‘The Nutcracker’.” The Boston Ballet production is playing on Washington St. in the Theatre District at the Opera House, close to the Common and the darker streets of Boston at night. We hoped we’d find a bit of juice in the Herald......

While staggering home last week after one too many Mai Tais and delicious wasabi peas served at the bar at Peking Tom's, Bostonist walked past the brightly-lit Paramount Theater sign and wondered why it was all lit up when there was nothing actually inside of it. Located next door to the newly renovated Opera House on Washington Street, the Paramount was last open in 1976 as a porno house, before closing its doors. Since then,......
