Two brothers, one a University of Massachusetts student, were injured on Friday night when a dispute over a parking spot escalated into an assault with a socket wrench in an Amherst parking lot. The 22-year old student suffered "spinal and head trauma and multiple fractures in his leg" after he was beaten with a 24-inch wrench. The suspect denied the chages of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery with serious bodily injury. A pre-trial hearing is set for on June 13. [MassLive.com] more ›

-- A student at Stonehill College was arrested by Brockton police on Monday for allegedly raping an eight-year old girl multiple times while working as a tutor in the federally funded America Counts program. The student, a junior, pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape of a child with force and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 years old. Police believe that the shooting, which left Alianna Peguero in the hospital, may have been a retaliation for the April killing of Luis Troncoso on a basketball court in JP. The Troncoso killing, in turn, is said to have been revenge for the death of Peguero's 20-year-old half-brother, Alan Peguero, last September.
