As a 2nd time rider in the Pan Mass Challenge I was fortunate enough to make it to a select group of cyclists that rode with Lance Armstrong for many miles last Saturday. Armstrong's appearance in the PMC inspired everyone involved - we hope he comes back again.
The Pan-Mass Challenge concluded on Sunday despite a deluge of rain. Thousands of riders who rode to cure cancer completed the ride unscathed. Several riders were injured in two crashes on drenched Cape Cod streets. Rider Rob Goodman put the ride in perspective. "But it’s nothing compared to what people have to go through -- radiation and chemo -- so we’re glad to do this to help find a cure," he said.
One day before the 32nd Pan Mass Challenge, organizers are finalizing preparations for the 5,300 riders taking to the streets to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Since 1980, the Pan Mass Challenge raised $303 million and hopes to add $34 million this year.
Two people were rescued from their car after it got stuck, upside down, in a swamp near the Auburn-Worcester line. The people included an 18-year old pregnant woman and her boyfriend. On Friday June 10 at 9 p.m., the Paradise Rock Club will host The Dogmatics, The Neats, Band 19 and Last Stand in a concert to benefit 2011 Pan Mass Challenge cyclists Susan Cibulsky of Jamaica Plain and Brendan Raftery of Dorchester in tthe fight to cure cancer. The concert also features DJs Juli Kryslur and Randi Millman, plus The Painted Lights, and Mean Creek. Susan Cibulsky is the sister-in-law of Dogmatic guitarist and vocalist Jerry Lehane and Brendan Raftery is his friend. Members of each band have been touched by cancer. Tickets are $16 at Ticketmaster and are available to anyone 18+. The Paradise Rock Club is at 967 Commonwealth Ave., Boston.

This weekend the Pan Mass Challenge starts and over 5,000 cyclists will begin to ride for the goal of $31 million dollars in funding for cancer research at Dana Farber via the Jimmy Fund. Every rider has to raise at least $4,200 and you very well may know somebody riding who needs your help.
