This week, Phillyist saw the waters of a landmark fountain run red for a Showtime marketing stunt, the Phils pull ahead, and some serious nostalgia. They also got a chance to review an awesome tribute album, reminded folks to see the King and appreciated their beautiful skyline. Chicagoist knows what it's like to like the Cubs. But naming your kid Wrigley Fields? At least they can breathe a little easier now that Grossman's out and... more ›

Perez Hilton will be at Mansion with Lady Sovereign tonight at 9:00 pm. The event is sponsored by going.com and is free. Blogger of celebrities / celebrity blogger Perez Hilton must know how to work it. Newsweek is talking about his Oprah-like power when it comes to picking music, and he has boodles of visitors to his site. His specialties are brutal disses, not safe for work photos, and scribbling on stock and/or paparazzi photos.... more ›

--A group of female students at Framingham State College stole 1,000 copies of the student newspaper. What prompted them to do such a thing? They were angry at an editorial? They had passionate feelings about a major issue and were engaged in some kind of protest? No. They thought that a front-page image made them look fat. They painted letters on their stomachs and showed them at a lacrosse game. It wasn't as if... more ›

Scarlett Johansson was honored as the Hasty Pudding Theatricals Woman of the Year today in Cambridge. She was cause of more traffic snarls in the Harvard Square area than the icy road conditions yesterday's storm brought. The festivities began with a parade through the streets of Harvard Square followed by a roast at Agassiz Theatre and a press conference, both on Radcliffe Yard. Being the Year of the Woman 2.0 (madam speaker Nancy Pelosi, madam president - to be, of Harvard - Drew Gilpin Faust, and madam presidential candidate Hilary Clinton) it's fitting that Scarlett received Hasty Pudding's golden Hasty Pudding Pot on what was once the campus of Harvard's sister institution, Radcliffe, now part of Harvard as an Institute for Advanced Study. Hasty Pudding's permanent home in Harvard Square is still under construction and is expected to be finished soon, but not before Ben Stiller comes to Cambridge to receive his award, so for the second year in a row the pudding pot was awarded to the Woman of the Year at the Agassiz Theatre rather than the Hasty home base. more ›

Just as soon as Boston has been rated a safe place for child pedestrians, we hear of another close call at Logan. Planes aren’t running over children in crosswalks of course, but they’re almost hitting each other. Sixteen times in the last year alone. The FAA has been called in by MassPort authorities to identify the “trouble spots” on Logan runways. The Boston Globe beat them to the punch and provided a graphic to illustrate the areas of close encounter. Last Bostonist knew, United Airlines was the only carrier who offered a “From the Flight Deck” audio channel in flight and during take-off. We haven’t been on one of these near miss incidents during take off, yet, but next time Bostonist flies United we’re going to be tuned it waiting to hear an “Oh, Shit!” from the cockpit. (Disclaimer: We don’t mean to call United out on being involved in accidents, Tuesday happened to be with America, a week ago FedEx; just United is the only one that lets us listen in.) The latest aborted take off incident was blamed on an air traffic controller providing misinformation and a pilot zealously changing frequencies from landing to gate taxi control. Us, we blame the whole thing on the paparazzi. more ›

Britney Spears is for not for sale...well, at least her themed room isn't at the Onyx Hotel, which was sold to LaSalle Hotel Properties for $28.6 million this week. The group decided to hold onto the pop princess's hotel room and hopefully it will attract some more attention to the Bullfinch Triangle area hotel. In case you missed it, Spears invaded Boston this past fall by transforming a room into a simulacrum of her childhood... more ›
