RJD2 at the Paradise

Oscillating between absorbed, head-down humility and wide-eyed, costumed pageantry (picture a robot suit with voice-processing software) hip hop artist RJD2 played a sold-out show to adoring fans at the Paradise last night. more ›

It's officially Summer! Now that the warm weather is (hopefully) underway, the Summer concert season is really getting into gear. Just take a look at this week's shows, with plenty of classic bands, spastic hands, and up-and-comers from not-so-distant lands. more ›

On Sunday night, the self-proclaimed “biggest midget in the game” took the stage at the Paradise (prior to its recent sale). At 5’1” Louise Harman (a.k.a. British rapper Lady Sovereign), dominated with crass, innovative lyrics in her typical vulgar yet awesome demeanor that included burping and grabbing her chest. All shapes and sizes showed out for the lyricist’s third stop on her North American tour—from Allston/Brighton hipsters to preppy young professionals to 50-something couples (one youthful-looking grandma even mouthed the lyrics to a few songs). more ›

Tonight Of Montreal will freak out at the Paradise. Tickets are sold out, but it's definitely worth scalping/selling limbs on the black market for. Reports from last night’s show compare the festivities to ingesting mass amounts of elicit drugs. 7 PM, SOLD OUT, 18+ more ›

From the sound of it, you would have no idea that the Paradise was anywhere near Boston this past Thursday night. When Lucero took the stage, the club was transformed into a dingy bar in the middle of nowhere in the state of Tennessee, U.S. of A. With singer Ben Nichols playing ringmaster to the Southern punk symphony, he led a solid two-hour plus set that had the crowd swarming, fist pumping, and belting out lyrics as if it was the only thing they knew. more ›

If Superdrag had unleashed their blast of powerpop greatness "Sucked Out" in '96 and were never heard from again, their name would still live on with true rock fans for ages. more ›

In the past few years, the hype machine that is Great Britain's music scene has put the spotlight on two types of rock acts: those that make you dance and those that bow to the sounds of yesteryear. Sure, these categories certainly ignore a number of acts with brilliant sounds and vibrant creativity, but the shake-yer-rump vs. reimagined-nostalgia bands tend to grab the largest chunk of attention. When it comes to gropus that take a wide amount of sound and inspiration from the past, you've got the Arctic Monkeys (who reignited the craze for British garage punk from way back in the early aughts), Bloc Party (80s English post-punk), and the Editors (ever heard of Joy Division?), among others. The bands that make you dance range from the "nu-rave" Klaxons to the minimalist angularity of Foals, and even venturing over to the trance-core of Enter Shikari. Saturday night at the Paradise saw a meeting of these worlds, with the wistful White Lies in one corner and the dancefloor tunes of Friendly Fires. more ›

A year ago, at a benefit for T.T. the Bear's bartender Jeanne Sheehy, the members of Letters to Cleo took the stage for an impromptu reunion, and they could tell from the reaction of the crowd that people were happy to see them. This year, they're back for a real reunion, playing 4 gigs in 3 cities. more ›

Tuesday night, while the Red Sox were busy collapsing in on themselves like a massive, dying star, AA Bondy and the Cold War Kids put on a sold-out show at the Paradise. When opening act AA Bondy took the stage, concertgoers put away the bad news mlb.com was refreshing on their phones in favor of Bondy's inviting folk. more ›

Nostalgia is defined as a sentimental feeling towards something in the past, but there are no rules about how far in the past something has to be before you are allowed to get nostalgic about it. more ›

There are some bands that you can go years listening to their studio albums, but you will never understand the very essence of their existence until you see the live show. It sounds a bit dramatic, but is entirely true of Liars, who've continued to garner either high praise or loathe from the entire scale of music critics - Rolling Stone magazine to the adolescent consumer on a message board. Now stationed in Los Angeles, the Australian foursome released their fourth and eponymous LP, and have arguably collected more acclaim than their well-received debut, They Threw Us All In A Trench And Stuck A Mountain On Top from 2002. more ›
