Fans of Wild Beasts can catch the band at Paradise Rock Club in Boston on September 27 in support of their new record, Smother. The album has been called "elegant." Telekinesis touring with Wild Beasts. Doors open at 7 p.m.; tickets are $15.

On Friday June 10 at 9 p.m., the Paradise Rock Club will host The Dogmatics, The Neats, Band 19 and Last Stand in a concert to benefit 2011 Pan Mass Challenge cyclists Susan Cibulsky of Jamaica Plain and Brendan Raftery of Dorchester in tthe fight to cure cancer. The concert also features DJs Juli Kryslur and Randi Millman, plus The Painted Lights, and Mean Creek. Susan Cibulsky is the sister-in-law of Dogmatic guitarist and vocalist Jerry Lehane and Brendan Raftery is his friend. Members of each band have been touched by cancer. Tickets are $16 at Ticketmaster and are available to anyone 18+. The Paradise Rock Club is at 967 Commonwealth Ave., Boston.

Last Friday, Boston postpunk band Mission of Burma closed out a two-night engagement at the Paradise Rock Club by playing its 1981 album in its entirety. It was a potentially risky move for a band that has released new material as recently as 2006. Mission of Burma could have come across as antiquarian, its members curators of themselves.
When we last saw Devotchka, they occupied a stage the size of a coffee table, and Bostonist was relieved that TT's didn't collapse under the weight of their sousaphone. Returning to Boston on Sunday night, they brought reinforcements, annexing the Paradise Rock Club with horn players and an actual sit-down, read-sheet-music string section.
Boredoms, the long-running Japanese noise and experimental music group, have always had a strange popularity. They are probably the only band who prefaced a career on Warner Bros. Records by releasing an EP called . (They have since moved to the indie label Thrill Jockey.) But Bostonist was still taken by surprise when we learned that their Saturday show at the Paradise Rock Club had sold out. People have listened to this band's music, right?

Not all technology startups are out for big money. Tourfilter began as an idea to develop a tool so the founder, Chris Marstall, so he wouldn't miss his favorite bands when they were in town. Unlike some of the other sites like Pollstar or Tourb.us, Tourfilter doesn't track bands from their tour calendars but off of the venues in a specific area. Bostonist has been on board from early on, it's almost a year old (turning 1 on April 1), and the site has seen a fair amount of media attention from the likes of the Boston Globe, Metro, and recently both Wired and Rolling Stone. Tonight the site takes center stage at River Gods in Cambridge where Marstall will DJ the evening using all bands tracked in Tourfilter.

Eugene Mirman and Bobby Tisdale have been running a well received comedy show in New York for a bit called Invite Them Up. It's a venue for comedians to test a bit of new material on stage. The "super deluxe holiday show" (language from their website) will be making the on the road appearance at the Paradise Rock Club tonight at 8 pm. Along with Mirman and Tisdale, Jon Benjamin, AD Miles, and David Cross will share the bill.
