After twice completing three-day sweeps of its possible games, Boston was due for a little balance. It arrived on Thursday to usher out the Bruins, lingered on Friday to pester Jon Lester and left Red Sox fans nervous if they turned off their TVs before midnight on Saturday. Today is all about restoring a sense of order. Boston lost Game Seven on the ice, today it hopes to win Game Seven on the parquet.

We didn't really think there was going to be any Wally Pipp-ing of the injured Red Sox (well, maybe one of them). Even though the kids have been on fire, the Sox welcomed back Josh Beckett from arm trouble and Mike Lowell from a strained oblique with open (if sore) arms. And the two of them chipped in, in an 8-1 ripping of the Rangers that pulled the Sox within 2 1/2 of the AL East lead and probably caused a sleepless night or two in Ray Country.
There are 39,195 lucky souls in the metropolitan area today. They're the ones holding tickets, through fair means or foul, to the home opener today at Fenway. They get to see the flag unfurled, the bling distributed, and hopefully the Red Sox get back on track against the winless Tigers.
