Massachusetts House Speaker Robert DeLeo's office confirmed that first-term state Rep. Mark Cusack of Braintree is being investigated for an incident involving a fellow legislator's aide. According to WCVB, DeLeo's office said there is an "internal review" under way. Cusack, 26, engaged in " inappropriate behavior" inside the House chamber after a late-night budget debate session. It happened about a month ago and was interrupted by a court officer. Braintree Councilor John Mullaney said Cusack is guilty of making a mistake and should be honest about what happened. The crime is never as bad as not telling the truth about it," he said. The Patriot Ledger said Cusack reportedly identified himself as a different legislator. *By Weinergate, Bostonist means a sex scandal involving a politician. We’re not comparing the specific allegations. We almost described the Cusack story as a “Mini Weinergate.” That sounded tacky, howver.

In light of the apparent suicide of "Craigslist Killer" Philip Markoff, Craigslist is getting a lot of media scrutiny again. Specifically, the Patriot Ledger reports two more female escorts claimed they were "robbed or sexually assaulted" by a man they met through the Craigslist. The suspect was arrested last week in a similar incident. All charges alleged until proven under law.
--For the third time in recent weeks, Quincy police have arrested people on drug charges who allegedly brought their children to apparent drug deals. On Thursday, a 21-year old Hyde Park woman brought her 4-week-old baby boy with her while making an alleged heroin delivery. Police allege the suspect admitted to having heroin hidden in her underwear when officers confronted her. The woman and a man who accompanied her were both charged with heroin trafficking. The baby was taken to Quincy Medical Center and police notified the state Department of Families and Children. Men allegedly selling cocaine, in March, and OxyContin, in April, brought young children with them. [Patriot Ledger]
--Five men were arrested for the stabbing death of Terrence Jacobs, 16, last May. Everyone arrested is from Dorchester, except one man from Brockton. [Boston Globe]
During a conversation about the flood of movies shooting in Boston, a member of b0st0n LiveJournal linked to video of Diaz shooting The Box. The LiveJournal members also debated what a dumb title of a movie that is. Besides the obvious porn connotations, The Box is too vague. Does the box belong to anyone? Is it big? Is it small? We need an adjective here, people! The Patriot Ledger posted a YouTube video of The...
--Another winning headline from the mysterious BPD Blotter writer: "Adding Assault to Injury." Early this morning, Latanya Minors allegedly played bumper cars with another car. She struck a car, which had two occupants inside. Then she drove around the block and did it again. Minors wasn't finished - witnesses tried to "confront" her (BPD parlance), upon which she punched them and threw her keys at them. Also on the blotter: a robbery attempt at the...
The Scripps National Spelling Bee starts today! H-O-O-R-A-Y! And our state is well represented. Here's the list of our locals from the official Scripps National Spelling Bee site:
Unfortunately, this story about dolphins isn't as pleasant as the plot of a Douglas Adams book. Our clever water buddies just threw themselves on a sandy grave at Wollaston Beach. Surely, scientists must have a more reasonable explanation than that the dolphins are in a kamikaze mood. The Patriot Ledger has a possible reason from a spokesman at the New England Aquarium: "The dolphins were likely to have been sick because they died quickly...
First off, we know the headline is misleading. This post is all news about citizen media - we're not going to be bold and try to claim that it actually is citizen journalism. Some say Dan Gillmor is the father of citizen media. Regardless of whether you believe that, he did, in fact, write the book on it. This year he’s a non-resident fellow at the Berkman Center and lectured there earlier this week....
