The Red Sox are competitive with the Yankees head-to-head. They don't have a lot of trouble with the Angels. And both of those teams are headed for October. So why can't the Sox do anything against the going-nowhere KC Royals? more ›

When does Nick Green start? After Friday's disaster in Chicago, isn't that an appropriate question to ask? Paul Byrd allowed seven runs and 10 hits in just 2.1 innings and probably would have been hit just as hard by his kid's AAU team. Junichi Tazawa survived for 3.2 innings despite allowing five runs on seven hits. Believe it or not, Byrd and Tazawa were worse than it sounds as all 12 of Chicago's runs in the 12-2 loss were compressed into just three innings. Freddy Garcia allowed one run in six innings. more ›

The pitchers wing of the geriatric baseball hospital must have been unusually ebullient when the Sox shut out the Blue Jays, 7-0, yesterday afternoon. Paul Byrd, Billy Wagner, and Takashi Saito, ages 38, 38, and 39, respectively, gave a new meaning to the phrase "old-timer's day," combining for 8 innings of scoreless ball. (Spring chicken Manny Delcarmen pitched the seventh innning.) more ›

Clay Buchholz, who has been throwing baseballs at catchers' mitts in the Major League since 2007, has finally decided that he has become a pitcher. more ›

The mighty midget is making his case to become the AL MVP this season; Dustin Pedroia went 2-4 last night when the Sox beat the Orioles 7-4. Paul Byrd, who threw for seven innings last night and recorded the win, called Pedroia the MVP of the league. Coming from a guy whose spent 13 years playing baseball and has seen a lot over the years – it’s a compliment. Plus, if it doesn’t work in Boston, we’re sure Dustin’s biggest cheerleader would make room for him in Chicago. But don’t expect us to give up on him just yet, Ozzie. more ›

The Red Sox came ohsoclose to sweeping the Yankees out of the picture in New York last week. And they came, well, not quite so close this weekend, as good Chicago hitting and a dearth of run support for Tim Wakefield doomed the boys to a 4-2 loss to the White Sox at Fenway. more ›

It wasn’t too long ago when the Yankees came to town for a five game series that was a make or break situation for the Sox. But in historic Yankee fashion, they threw us over the proverbial barrel and violated us. But now the tables are turned and it feels good to be on top. Well, in second place and first in line for the Wild Card. But still, it could be worse. We could be the Yankees. Last night, Liza Minnelli’s rendition of “New York, New York” was heard echoing through out the streets of the Bronx when the Yankees lost to the Red Sox, 11-3. more ›

The Sox took the day off yesterday, heading for Canada and hoping to pay the Blue Jays back for the whupping that Toronto put on them at Fenway last week. Paul Byrd, a victim of the Jays during that series, gets the start tonight against Shaun Marcum. more ›

It turns out not every pitcher in the American League is as incompetent as those of the Rangers. Toronto sent ace and longtime Sox nemesis Roy Halladay to the Fenway mound last night, a day late, and he dazzled the Red Sox. Halladay went the distance, giving up only one run and seven hits, and spoiled a pretty decent debut by Paul Byrd, 4-1. more ›

Due to rain, Friday night’s game was postponed. For those of you who had tickets, you can use them on September 13th for a day/night double header. Paul Byrd will make his debut in a Red Sox uniform tonight and look for Josh Beckett to pitch on Sunday. Who knows if these extra days off will work in the favor of Clay Buchholz, he’s had one miserable outing after another and we won’t be seeing him until he throw against Baltimore on Wednesday. Game time is at 7:05 and Roy Halladay, the human pterodactyl according to Robby Roadsteamer, will be on the hill for the Blue Jays. more ›

Folks got their money's worth at Fenway last night. But what do you say to recap the game? more ›

BREAKING SPORTS NEWS: RED SOX TRADE FOR BYRD Red Sox front office announced they completed a trade with the Cleveland Indians for pitcher, Paul Byrd. Byrd is currently 7-10 with a 4.10 era. If you remember last year during the ACLS, a story broke about Byrd’s spending $25,000 on HGH. Byrd admitted to using it under doctor’s care while he was recovering from an injury. Cleveland will receive either a player or cash in return. more ›

We keep hoping a couple of tickets will drop like magic from the sky, but we've pretty much resigned ourselves to several more long nights with Joe Buck and Tim McCarver and several more mornings when coffee is all that stands between us and oblivion. Or you could sell everything you own and do what one guy did: pay $21,766 for two seats behind home plate, as the Globe reported this morning. The article also... more ›

We can second-guess or backseat coach all we want. Should Beckett have started Tuesday night's game instead of Tim Wakefield? Should Jacoby Ellsbury have started in the outfield for J.D. Drew or Coco Crisp? Should Doug Mirabelli have been replaced by Jason Varitek the moment Wakefield left the game? Should Julian Tavarez be on the pitching roster in these ALCS games? But that will only madden Red Sox fans and distract them from the reality... more ›
