Heavy rains caused flooding and general havoc today in North Shore towns like Peabody, Lynn, Swampscott, Marblehead, Salem, and Beverly. The morning commute was a mess, flood advisories were in effect until 2:45 p.m. in Essex County, and Peabody's Mayor Michael Bonfanti declared a state of emergency until 6 p.m. that closed many slips.

Police are searching for the driver of a "compact to mid-size black car" involved in an accident in Dorchester on Saturday that killed a 39-year old mother of three.
The northbound ramp between Route 128 and I-95 remains closed at this hour after a UPS tandem tractor-trailer carrying commercial ink cartridges to Portland, Maine turned over this morning and spilled several hundred gallons of non-hazardous ink. As the truck turned over, Channel 5 reported, a guard rail punctured the ink containers inside it. In order to fully clean the spill, 500 feet of the road has to be replaced. The ramp will be closed until the spill is fully cleaned, the State police said. The driver was not hurt in the one-vehicle crash. A Peabody man was arrested on Saturday by Peabody police for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. A skateboard. Yes, a 24-year old Peabody man allegedly assaulted another 24-year old Peabody man with a skateboard at Riverside Community Care on Andover Street. Both men were charged as they were involved in a fight. One was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and the other with aggravated assault and battery charges. All charges alleged until proven under law.[Globe]

--Police in Cambridge continue to unravel Monday's shooting of a 21-year old man at Harvard University's Kirkland House residence hall. Middlesex District Attorney Gerard T. Leone Jr said the killing occured after an alleged drug deal gone bad. Jabrai Jordan Copney, 20, turned himself in and will be arraigned today in Cambridge District Court. -- A 17-year-old boy was shot dead last night on Parker St. in Jamaica Plain. The shooting happened around 9:13 p.m. and was detected by police in the area, who spotted a man fleeing the scene. Minutes later, on Notre Dame St. in Roxbury, police arrested a 19-year-old Dorchester man, whom they suspect as being the fugitive. The man was charged on marijuana possession and guns charges but does not yet face charges in connection with the shooting. [BPDNews]
--Prosecutors in Malden District Court have charged a 57-year-old employee of Everett High School with child rape. He is accused of molesting a boy over a seven month period last year. He has worked for the school as a janitor and coach of the junior varsity basketball team. [Boston Globe]
