Marc Savard wasn't on the ice for the Bruins ride to winning the Stanley Cup, but he stilll got his day with the Cup on Monday and shared it with hockey fans in Peterborough. "Unfortunately I didn't get to play much, obviously, in the playoffs, but it's been a great ride," he said. "I'm glad because the guys still made me feel part of it." The Bruins want Savard's name engraved on the trophy, too, eventhough he played only 25 games all season due to post concussion syndrome.

While the revelers who packed the TD Garden for the Bruins' redemptive sweep over the Flyers went home happy after the win clinched a berth Eastern Conference finals, they woke up to a reality check delivered by general manager Peter Chiarelli: Patrice Bergeron suffered a concussion in the third period on a hit from Flyers forward Claude Giroux. Bergeron has two prior concussions, one of which benched him for the entire 2007-08 season.
On Thursday, the Bruins took care of business with a 6-3 win over the Islanders, and ended a three-game losing streak. On Friday, Peter Chiarelli did some business of his own by dealing Blake Wheeler and Mark Stuart away to the Atlanta Thrashers, and (finally) acquiring Tomas Kaberle from Toronto, in separate trades.
After three straight losses, Bruins management seems upset. Peter Chiarelli got a new player and Claude Julien called their play "unacceptable." Part of the problem is that Phil Kessel, who had never scored a goal against the Bruins, scored twice, including the score that tied the game in the third, to power Toronto to a 4-3 win over Boston. Daniel Paille, Gregory Campbell, and Patrice Bergeron scored goals in the loss. Tim Thomas allowed two late goals.
According to Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli, Marc Savard may need a stint on long-term injury reserve before he can play this season. Chiarelli admitted Savard's timetable to play could be in the months. "He may be a month, a month and a half from officially getting on the ice. It could be two months,'' he said. Rumors are circulating about Savard missing the entire season, which Chiarelli denied.

Bostonist is keeping track of the Hub's sports celebrities. While various contract issues contributed to Richard Seymour's stunning trade, contract intrigue keeps Phil Kessel in limbo and in the sportsworld's version the Track. Kessel is unsigned and in rehab mode. We assume he's rehabbing because the Globe's Kessel contract/trade reporting included no reference to how #81 is progressing after his offseason surgeries despite two separate stories saying essentially the same thing. Toronto, according to Kevin Paul Dupont, is lusting after Kessel and possibly preparing to make a contract offer. Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli has a bit of leverage and could sign him and deal him to Nashville or the New York Rangers, Dupont says.
