--Yesterday afternoon, a man was shot to death on Geneva Avenue in Dorchester. According to WBZ, police are looking for a bronze or gold Lexus with three black men inside. The Globe noted that this was the third fatal shooting at that address since 1990. Another person was killed in a shooting last night at 68 Cedar in Roxbury. However, details are sketchy. However, the Herald sees a glimmer of hope in the shootings--Boston went......

--Where have all the gay bars gone? Robert David Sullivan writes that we should be concerned about their disappearance: "In the Boston area, many of Harvard Square's bookstores, Kenmore Square's student eateries, and myriad other places that guaranteed a diverse urban experience have closed their doors, replaced by a far more uniform lineup of bank branches, chain stores, and upscale restaurants." A must-read. [Boston Globe] --If you haven't noticed with the cold temperatures and long......

So we've now had a whole 24 hours to get used to the new $.41 postal rate. And we're more confused about how much it will take to drop something in the mail than we were when we tried using a CharlieTicket CharlieCard for the first time. We dropped in to mail the letter that we'd promised to send to Grandpa Bostonist back in March – marched up to the fare vending machines stamp vending......

Hey you! Yeah, you, the one who's been belting out "Roxanne" while preparing for The Police's Fenway Park gigs in July. Phil Collins has a message for you: you best be brushing up on his lyrics. Genesis is back. The prog-rock Brit band announced via webcast today that it has finalized dates for the reunion tour it first mentioned back in November. Along with nearly 15,000 other folks, Bostonist was on hand as TV on the Radio and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs rocked City Hall Plaza. The pairing of Brooklyn (Williamsburg's) TV on the Radio with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs makes perfect sense for so many reasons. Not the least of which is the fact that TVOTR's David Andrew Sitek produced the YYY's Fever to Tell and Machine Ep. And the YYY's crack guitarist (and occasional......

It's been almost a month since local electro-pop trio Certainly, Sir played the Enormous Room. Attendees of the venue had a chance to pick up their newest album, Tan, which is oddly only sold in Japan. Tan includes guest vocals from Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie/ The Postal Service, and some really fresh synth beats The new disc will be available – along with another Cambridge appearance of the group tomorrow night......

All we can say is at least it's not raining. The humidity, not so much the heat, has got everyone running on a pretty sluggish pace today. Perhaps after another TurboIce things will pick up. Or some sweet nerdy action in the way of the IT Band Bash – you know the guy sitting in the cube across from you who's a rocker at night? Oh, you don't, well he might be. If you're......

Admittedly we’re a little low on the Saturday evening picks for this week. Mostly because we know we’ll still be swigging green beer by the pint – or at least too hung-over from Friday night to make it out to a show. Again this week we’ve put a little classical music for those of you that feel a little culture is good for the soul. Monday 3/13: Dilated Peoples and Little Brother Rakaa, Evidence......

We live in an iTunes nation. It's easy to pull a track down to your pod for under a buck. Listed here is our much discussed, unbiased by payola, top 25 albums of 2005. After the jump you'll find where some of us stand individually on the subject of the years best. (Apparently......
