Turning the Tables on Health Care Nazi Baiters

The woman Barney Frank famously compared to a dining room table at a health care forum in Dartmouth over the summer is back in circulation and she brought her Lyndon LaRouche loving, President Obama hating, health care reform opposition with her. The woman, apparently named Rachel Brown, appeared at the North Attleboro Post Office on Friday with another person and a picture of President Obama with an Adolf Hitler type of moustache. Brown and her cohort reportedly asked people "What do you think of his moustache?, " as they walked by.

Hate Crime Story Gets National Interest

The phrase "I Swastika Obama" that was carved into the 18th green at the Lakeville Country Club on Monday may have been covered from view by a cardboard heart, however, the incident has the attention of the Secret Service and the FBI, not to mention the media. Club officials estimate repairing the damage at $1,000. No suspect is known yet. Gawker.com explains how the vandals may be both ignorant and stupid. GatesGate: The Gift(??) That Keeps on Giving!

The Henry Louis Gates Jr. arrest saga won't stop. Local and national media have gone into full feeding frenzy mode. At one point today, the Herald's website was unavailable. It's back up. The Latest:

Jared C. Monti of Raynham will posthumously receive the Medal of Honor from president Barack Obama in September. Monti, a 30-year old Army sergeant at the time, was killed on June 21, 2006 in Afghanistan while attempting to rescue wounded soldiers in his unit. He rescued one soldier and was killed while making a second rescue attempt. President Obama called Monti's parents, Paul Monti, of Raynham, and Janet Monti, of Winterville, N.C., on Tuesday to confirm his son would receive the country's top military honor. Both greeted the news with pride and sadness. "I’m so proud of him, but we’re going to meet the president because he’s dead, so I feel no joy in that," she said. Only six members of the military have been given this honor since 9/11. Monti's friends and family have started a scholarship fund in his name.

Bite Size News, June 23: Bad Weather = Bad Business Edition

  • If your business is struggling this month, just look out the window to get the reason for it. [Boston Globe]

On Tuesday, CNN reported that President Obama will extend "health care and other benefits to the same-sex partners of federal employees" by signing a memorandum on Wednesday. As more states begin to recognize gay marriage, this could be seen as another reason for supporters of gay marriage to be optimistic that gay marriage will be allowed in any state. As Bostonist recently illustrated, attitudes on this issue still inspire heated exchanges and intense emotions. The President has recently been criticized by gay rights groups because his Justice Department supported the Defense of Marriage Act in court despite candidate Obama's pledge to try to repeal it. Obama has also not carried out his promise to drop the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy.
