As if you needed another reason to go to the Public Garden on a warm, late summer day, now you may run into Bruce Springsteen. He chatted up regular public performer David Gonzalez and even briefly jammed for Bostonians. Bruce's son Evan goes to B.C. and dad and wife Patty Scialfa were dropping him off.

Historygradguy kicks off a week of autumn PotDs here on Bostonist. This shot was taken over the weekend in the Public Garden. The low perspective and fine details are just great.
Boston police found Pack, the bronze duckling who had been swiped from the Public Garden, safe and sound on Beacon Hill, the Globe reports. Pack was not the first duckling to disappear from the public art work, and he probably will not be the last. Nonetheless, he has not been turned into crack rock, despite the sensationalistic claims of some news outlets.
If the crocuses and unexpected sunshine haven't clued you in, robbery suspect Timothy Flaherty, 51 of Lawrence, has provided further evidence that spring is upon us. Last night, after allegedly robbing a victim on Beacon Hill, Flaherty led police on a wild chase through the Common and the Public Garden before diving into the Frog Pond Lagoon to elude capture. (We assume that it looks much bigger in the dark.)

--Ah, Beauty & the Geek, how do we love thee? This week, the show threw a twist into the proceedings and allowed the nation to vote for either Somerville LARPer Dave & Jasmine or Tufts grad student Nicole & Sam. How could Bostonist possibly decide between the two locals? As an added bonus, the show sent each of the finalists back to their hometowns so they could show their respective friends how much they've changed....
It's been a while since we've heard from our good friend Pear Biter, so we offer today a beautiful reminder of the since-passed warm weather. The colors in this are so deeply saturated it reminds us of a painting, and we can almost feel the warm sunshine in the Garden. Good to see you again, Pear Biter - thanks as always!...
Skymeadow's vibrant shot of tulips in the Public Garden makes us want to break out in song. On-n-n-l-y you...
It's summer. You're on vacation. Just reading Bostonist isn't enough fun for you. You want to participate. Well, here's your chance to engage in a Web 2.0 experiment of sorts. This week we launched Bostonist Labs with some new features to engage you in what's going on in our corner of the blogosphere. We've finally finished off our spring cleaning and released two new sections to explore: Bostonist Labs: Contribute Share Links: Using del.icio.us,...
The not-so-secret secret that a ride around the lagoon on a swan boat on a steaming New England afternoon is a great way for a tourist to feel comfortable or a Bostonian to feel nostalgic for childhood when they first climbed aboard the bike pedal style powered boats. The Swan Boats launch every May and are taken out of the water and stored at Labor Day – USA today reports, via the AP, that the...
Saturday was a beautiful day. We haven’t forgotten it. The sun was shining, temperatures were warm, the Sox were playing at Fenway, and cantaloupes were out at Haymarket. Flowering trees, crocus, and daffodils are good indications springtime is upon us, so is the Boston Marathon and the launching of the Swan Boats in the Public Garden. As is customary, Saturday morning Menino, wife, and grandkids took the first ride in the boats for the year. The start of spring also marks the beginning of tourist season in New England. Today’s video shows both swan boats and a tourist perspective. Local videoblogger Steve Garfield has a video on his site showing the boats being prepped for launch, we also suspect he is behind the “swanboats” Flickr tag, linked to from the official Swan Boats of Boston website.
Almost every morning while Bostonist waits in line at a Somerville Dunkin Donuts there's a good 20 seconds to scan the cover page of the Boston Herald to see what's going on - scorching hot day out? Bikini-clad beachgoer! "Oh it's just 'the Herald' being 'the Herald', right?" How many times has Bostonist seen the Herald's cover page, and chuckled at the latest in sensationalist Bostonian tabloid fare? It's as sure as the sun rising from the east.
Sometimes, Bostonist has found, the world is just too damn funny. Such is the case with Romeo and Juliet, the celebrated swan couple in the Public Garden who, the Globe reports today, are both female. Where to begin with this wonderful story? The Globe wisely gets quotes from gay marriage pundits, pro and con (our favorite is from Marty Rouse of MassEquality: "We should cherish and love our swans, no matter whom they choose to swim with"). We imagine Rick Santorum is fulminating and SJC Chief Justice Margaret Marshall is having a chuckle. We hope that silly bigots in Mass. and elsewhere are angrily saying, "See?! See what happens?!!" And we are more than a little suspicious of the Department of Parks and Recreation after learning that they sat on this story for a month, fearing it would hurt tourism. Lastly, we are glad to have learned from the story that determining a swan's sex is "not just a matter of turning the birds upside down." Now we'll know not to make that mistake.
Ever since Bostonist learned about bird migration we wait for the chirping to start telling us that spring is here. It’s not just the sounds though, we seem to be getting inundated with birds lately. It started with the launch of the Duck Boats earlier this month, and their attempt to break into Cambridge. Tomorrow marks the launch of the Swan Boats in the Public Garden. Bostonist has had a soft spot for the Swan Boats ever since we made way for ducklings. Mayor Menino gets the honor of taking the first ride and he is bringing six grandchildren along for the ride. The mayoral celebration and launch takes place Saturday, April 16 at 10 a.m., we might just wait until July to check it out.
