Erik Bedard didn't get a victory in his first start with the Red Sox as Cleveland won, 7-3, with a 14-hit attack last night. He might have pitched well enough to get a win as he allowed three runs in his five innings of work. Bedard allowed seven hits and struck out five. Former Sox pitcher Justin Masterson (9-7) got the win for the Tribe with three runs on five hits in six innings. He had nine strikeouts.
Rajon Rondo is currently in possession of the most scrutinized elbow in the NBA, and an MRI today proved the elbow is not broken. Doc Rivers said he's assuming Rondo will be in action tonight in game four against Miami. How effective he'll be is a different matter.
The Celtics victory over the Heat Saturday was quite impressive for a few reasons. Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett turned in dominating performances with their team's season in the balance. The fact of two star players delivering in the clutch is being overshadowed by Rajon Rondo's gutsy return from a ghastly elbow dislocation that looked like a season-ending injury. And Garnett said Rondo inspired them. "He showed a lot of heart, a lot of grit," he said. "And we followed that lead."
While tonight's game isn't technically a must win, the Celtics won't win the series without winning game three.

Bostonist has a confession. We wanted to see the Celtics play the Heat in the playoffs. It goes without saying that we hope/expect that the Celtics beat Miami, too. Rajon Rondo is quite possibly the key player in the series. As for Shaquille O'Neal, well, when Celtics president Danny Ainge says he can't go "12 minutes," how much can be expected?
Paul Pierce set the tone early for Game Three of the Celtics-Knicks series. Pierce scored seven points in a 9-0 Celtics opening surge and Boston never looked back in a 113-96 blowout that gives them a commanding 3-0 lead.

Rajon Rondo's #9 jersey ranks as the third-best selling National Basketball Association game shirt. Of course, Miami's LeBron James has the top spot wrapped up, and Kobe Bryant is second.
Should we thank Dustin Pedroia or Kelli Pedroia? After Boston's 0-6 season-opening road sweep, Pedroia said his wife would say the Red Sox stink. He vowed to prove her wrong on Friday against the Yankees and went ahead and did it. He had three hits and three RBI to will Boston to a 9-6 win.
The Celtics (54-23) tightened up their defense in the second half and allowed just 32 points to the Sixers in the second-half to secure a 99-82 victory. The Celtics led 63-50 in the third quarter after a 16-1 spurt that began in the first half. Well, a change of scenery and opponent made no difference to the Red Sox as they lost to Cleveland, 3-1. And, even worse, fans, ESPNBoston.com said no 0-4 team has ever won a World Series.
The remade Red Sox begin the 2011 season in a matter of hours and we all know they'll easily produce more runs than they prevent. Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez add substance in the middle of a lineup that everyone expects to end up in the World Series.

Bostonist is still thinking about Rajon Rondo's performance in Sunday's win over the Miami Heat. He was the most valuable player on the court. He did a bit of everything, even guarding LeBron James, who has seven inches and about 80 pounds on Rondo. Doc Rivers discussed how an unconventional plan like putting Rondo on LeBron was crucial to the win.
The Celtics beat the Miami Heat, 85-82, for the third time in three games this season. Rajon Rondo was the catalyst for Boston as they moved back into first place in the East with the win. Rondo finished with a triple-double of 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.
Green was the color of the day on Super Bowl Sunday. Yes, Green Bay held off Pittsburgh, 31-25, to win Super Bowl XLV and Aaron Rodgers was named MVP, something #4 never did. Green also means Boston Celtics. They beat Orlando, 91-80, behind a 26-point, 7-assist effort from Rajon Rondo.
With one crucial cog - Kevin Garnett - out of the line-up and, arguably, the NBA's top team, the Spurs, in town, every other leading member of the green crew stepped their game up in a 105-103 victory.
If there's one thing that the Boston sports fan knows well, it's a comeback. We'll happily talk all about the 2004 ALCS, the bounce back from Celtics' disastrous 2006-2007 season to 2007-2008 championship glory, or the way the Bruins turned around a skid last season to coming within one goal of a spot in the Eastern Conference finals. And, well, we'll just ignore the other comeback that comes to mind when we think of last Bruins season.
Rajon Rondo will play tonight against the Toronto Raptors after missing seven games. Doc Rivers planned to sit Rondo, again, but #9 and trainer Ed Lacerte changed his mind.
Kevin Garnett is out for today's game against the New Orleans Hornets. We knew that. Rajon Rondo is still out today, too, with his sore ankle. So, good luck, Celtics! Go, Shaq!
Well, the question of whether the Knicks are for real has been answered. They are. A little too real, to the point where the Celtics had to dig deep and hang on for dear life to beat them last night in New York.
We might never know why the Celtics almost gave a game away just days after actually giving away a game to on Sunday. Boston escaped with a 110-101 win over Toronto Friday, despite a 34-24 fourth quarter deficit. The Celtics led by 19 after three quarters thanks to two of their bigger and better players. Kevin Garnett led all scorers 26 points and 11 rebounds, and Shaquille O'Neal added 16 points and nine rebounds.
After two straight losses, the Bruins lace up against the Florida Panthers. Tim Thomas (10-1-1, 1.49 GAA) should be in goal tonight. ESPN reports Savard is 2-3 days away from playing in a game after being cleared for full-contact practices on Tuesday.

You can say what you want about the Miami Heat - and we will, and we know you will - but they don't get discouraged easily. "We're the best 5-4 team in the league. How about that?" asked Dwyane Wade, who was freed after the game from being tied up, gagged, and thrown in the back of a van during his 5-4 juggernaut's 112-107 loss at the hands of the efficient Celtics.
You can see Rajon Rondo's naked head during Wednesday's Celtics-Cavs contest.
