Charlie, Fletcher, and Special Ed of WFNX morning show The Sandbox invited Bostonists Korri and Caroline up to chat about the Smells of the T. Little did we know that smells would be the theme of the entire show. Callers were eager to share the smells they have encountered all over the state, such as peanut-butter factories, burnt coffee, prison feet, and pee simmering on radiators (ugh). more ›

A somewhat abbreviated Redux, since we're preparing for our live-blog of NFL Armageddon this afternoon. Let's start with the bad and end on a high note. First, the Bruins. They went to Ottawa last night to play the Senators, who are 11-1 and running away with the Northeast Division. So now the Bruins know how it feels to play any of the other teams from Boston. It was close, and the B's even led at... more ›

--Remember the old line from Crocodile Dundee when Mick (Paul Hogan) is threatened by a tough guy with a switchblade? And then Mick whips out a much larger knife and declares, "That's not a knife! [brandishes knife] Now that's a knife!" Well, imagine that scene in Framingham. With guns and way scarier. A store clerk in Framingham went all Crocodile Dundee on an aspiring robber by trumping the robber with a bigger gun. A guy... more ›

Happy first weekend of September - and happy Labor Day weekend, too, for our American cities! Let's take a look at what's been happening around the Ist-a-verse. The deaths of two firefighters shook Bostonist this week. Boston's firefighters bent over backwards all week long - first, they fought flames pouring from the Boston Tea Party museum, and then a restaurant fire killed two and injured many more. Their efforts make everything else - like Tom... more ›

No offense to the other locations at which Harry Potter celebrations were held on Friday evening, but it was clear that if you wanted to get Boston's ultimate HP countdown experience, you had to whisk yourself off to Harvard Square. With a cluster of bookshops steps away from each other and a courtyard concert headlined by Draco & the Malfoys and Harry & the Potters, the Square served for a night as the local center... more ›

It must be the Dunkies Turbo Ice. Well, not really. The makers of Hiro Beverage, yet another option on the ever-expanding field of contenders to Red Bull, asked Sperling's BestPlaces to come up with some stats on the most energetic cities to help hype the beverage's launch. Statistics supported the assertion and put Boston in third, San Francisco took the top spot and New York City was the nearest East Coast contender hitting the top... more ›

Let's take a look back at a week that raised this Zen koan: if Kevin Federline got into a wrestling ring with a wrestler, who would you root for? Austinist was in an entertainment state of mind as they covered the dickens out of the Austin Film Festival, depicted all the Big 12 football coaches as South Park characters, and interviewed Jose Gonzalez. Chicagoist talked about the passion as they bid adieu to Bell's... more ›

Drank too many Red Bull and Vodkas at the bar last night? Got a creative streak inspired by caffeine and taurine? Check out the Art of the Can contest display in South Boston. Bostonist is skeptical of found object art projects. We know usually that means that some artist has used trash to create works of art. After smelling the formaldehyde Damien Hirst used in the MFA exhibit Bostonist has tried to keep our nose clear of art. The Art of the Can brings world wide entries to Southie for display. Somewhat fitting is that the reused cans are being displayed in the eco-friendly environmentally sustainable Artists for Humanity EpiCenter. Susan Kaup told us that there have been 31 entries selected for display, so don’t go bringing your own creations to this show. It’s not quite clear what the bounty will be for the People’s Choice award, maybe a case of Red Bull? Another marketing wonder from the little can that brought you the Red Bull Truck handing out ice cold Bull all summer, and the Flugtag rewarding TV watchers with snippets of people more or less free falling into the water with the help of a "flying machine." Art of the Can starts Saturday, Feb. 26 and runs for a week. more ›
