We interviewed former gubernatorial candidate, businessman, and man-about-the-state Christy Mihos. Mihos has taken an active role against Cape Wind, the proposal to install wind turbines in Nantucket Sound, and he has offered an alternate proposal to install wind turbines at his chain of convenience stores. We told him up front that we were pro-Cape Wind, but we've run a lot of pro-Cape Wind posts, and we wanted to give him equal time to talk about......

All of Fung Wah's accidents were kind of cute, in a twisted sort of way. Fung Wah is the cheap transportation of choice for all the cool kids wanting to get out of town. But Fung Wah's latest scrape with the law isn't cute at all. Fung Wah must pay a blind couple $50,000 because the company wouldn't let the couple take its seeing-eye dog on the bus. Fung Wah must also cough up a......

Seattlest has a talk with the photographer from last week's "Segway Mom" and then experiences some dissension in the ranks over the question of wine vs. beer. It's not West Side Story, but about as close as they'll get. They're also still waiting on some inbox relief after a spammer is arrested. As Chicagoist counts down the days to its third anniversary party, they found all-organic pizza to be underwhelming amidst the hoopla, tried......

The city of Boston unveiled new plans today to hold private developers to a more environmentally friendly standard. The Globe reports that the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) will incorporate these regulations into building codes for the city. Anyone planning a building over 50,000 square feet must meet 26 of the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards, and they must also meet a few extra Boston-specific standards, such as......

Somehow, the world of -ists managed to make it through the week despite news that Jen & Vince broke up. -Chicagoist had fall on their mind as they made squash and fudge, read "House of Leaves" and ">tried to figure out what's next for the Cubs. Not fall related, but still of utmost concern, the whole skinny black pants thing. -Torontoist fought off an evil scourge of raccoons and went to go see who......

The Boston Globe reports today that the City is cutting back the proposed regulations on biolabs in the Hub. Lobbying from academic research institutions and for-profit drug companies who conduct research in the City have resulted in loosening of the standards proposed by the Boston Public Health Commission. The initial regulations would have required a permit for research on any potentially infectious organisms. Given the permitting process the public would be able to contest a......

(OK, not really.) If you live and work in Boston proper, or in Cambridge, or really anywhere other than Somerville, the ongoing saga of the development of Assembly Square feels like a distant local squabble. But for Somervillionaires, it's a big, exciting question: Will mayor (and assistant football coach at Somerville High) Joseph Curtatone be able to deliver on one of his major campaign promises and turn Assembly Square from a down-at-the-heels, semi-industrial wasteland to......

The basics and the business wraps up today. Busy webcasters will likely retire after the reception this evening to their video camera or microphone and their favorite editing software package and put together a file they’ll enclose in a post on their blog before the sessions get up and running tomorrow. Today, April 28, is the first of two days of the Spring Podcast Academy hosted here in the Hub by Boston University College......

To us, the perfect night consists of sitting in our favorite bar, chugging a Magic Hat #9 in between shots at the dartboard. That’s why Bostonist perked up when we read a recent Globe story about the World Series of Darts in May. Kindly, the Globe provided a graphic to explain regulations of a game of 501. Sure to draw all the die-hard darters from around the Hub, the World Series is no joke—it’s airing......

Whew! Bostonist was worried for a minute that gay marriage and related issues might stay out of the headlines for too long, but the good folks at the Catholic Church seldom let us down. The bishops of Massachusetts's four archdioceses have announced their plan to seek an exemption for Catholic Charities from the state rule (in .pdf form) forbidding licensed adoption agencies from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation. As you might have guessed,......

It is every Bostonian's nightmare: getting towed, and last night one Bostonist experienced it for the first time - me. This is my story. Living in the suburbs has its perks namely free, plentiful, and covered parking; however, whenever I must venture from my protective bubble a big decision must be made: to drive or not to drive? With an early morning flight looming on Wednesday morning, the prospect of venturing via commuter rail......

You may recall Bostonist wondering, not long ago, who was responsible for the fliers around town warning us about a social worker named Mary Mitchell-Nixon ("abuser of people with AIDS," the fliers said). Well, alert Bostonist reader Dan Roche brought to our attention the recent appearance of new, more detailed fliers, explaining more about the nature of one man's serious grudge. (The text and a picture of the new fliers are reproduced after the jump,......

The Back Bay MBTA stop was taken over by Jet Blue ads last week. They’re expanding their routes from the MassPort operated Logan International Airport, and taking the lease on Delta’s spot for Terminal C. Delta will move their service into the $475 Million renovation of Terminal A. With more gates and a brand new terminal Bostonist hopes two things happen: fewer delays and cheaper flights. The new terminal at Logan was designed and built......
