Photograph of memorial outside Heath Ledger's NYC apartment Gothamist learned that actor Heath Ledger was found dead in his SoHo apartment, cause of death unknown so far (but apparently the masseuse who found him called Mary-Kate Olsen before 911).Bostonist considered sending a link about the Super Bowl, but damn! The New Kids are reuniting!Although Sylvester Stallone is a native of New York City, his Rocky character lets many Philadelphians consider him a native son......

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said he's on Brockton's side when it comes to where the World Boxing Council should put a statue of Rocky Marciano--and it worked. The World Boxing Council (WBC) announced that it will erect a statue of Marciano in Marciano's hometown of Brockton after initially announcing it would be in Boston--much to Brockton's chagrin. The Globe reported that Mayor Menino and Brockton mayor James E. Harrington got in touch with WBC president......

The World Boxing Council should get its ears boxed. They have decided to build a statue honoring boxer Rocky Marciano. However, they are placing the statue in Boston, not in Brockton, where Marciano was from and where he became a legend. Brian Ballou at the Globe spoke with the World Boxing Council president Jose Sulaiman, who verbally punched Brockton below the belt: "Boston is visited by people of the world." Does that mean Brockton is......

Sure, he's not in the starting rotation any more - how do you follow up a no-hitter? But the Sox learned last night that they can lean on Clay Buchholz when they're not strong, putting him out for three solid relief innings that kept Baltimore scoreless and allowed Jason Varitek to drive in the winning run of a tense ballgame. The Sox had given Tim Wakefield a 5-4 lead, mostly on the 3-run homer by......

Ordinary folks out for a stroll this past Saturday night in Harvard Square must have been wondering what the fuss was about at the Brattle. A crowd of people gathered on the stairs and around the main entrance of the movie theater while the staff valiantly tried to corral overeager fankids into a line. Stern-looking people with professional lighting and video cameras were shooting the action and talking to men who were being treated like......

It's tough to not envy our Austin peers these days, as the sonic ear candy that is South by Southwest looms in mid-March. Without the ability to hop on a plane and hightail it to Texas, many have been left to look at initial lineup announcements and imagine wandering Sixth Street with happy grins on their faces. A new tool on the official festival site could add to the bitterness, but it can also......

Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy gave the kind of speech that makes people want to stand up and cheer. He's always been a smooth talker, but he threw a little bit of Howard Dean's barbaric yawp into the mix, and the result was explosive. Here's Teddy railing against the Republicans tacking on more and more amendments, which are slowing down the passage of an increase in the minimum wage: At about three minutes into the video,......

God, we're so sick of Snakes on a Plane that we want to kill anyone and everyone that makes a "something on a something" joke. But then we realized that there was no way we could ever win this fight, and, hell, if you can't beat them, we might as well join them. And with that, you have the theme of this weeks' Gothamist network post. Austinist makes it easy for us, with Candidate on......

This weather is horrendous and until we see the sun come out and don’t have to wear scarves in the month of May, Bostonist will continue to be in full Seasonal Affective Disorder mode. But when we heard about a woman who is kayaking around the 48 lower states in the U.S. and who happens to be in the Boston area this week, Bostonist started feeling sorry for someone besides ourselves. Renata Chlumska, a 32-year-old......
