HarperCollins imprint Ecco has landed Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler's autobiography for over $2 million. Keith Richards, by contrast, got $7 mil from Little, Brown for his own autobio. None of this should be construed to mean that the rock stars will do any actual writing.

While it might not seem possible judging from the creaky antics of bands like the Rolling Stones, there are some rock musicians who age well. Exhibit A would be Mission of Burma. Exhibit B would be Kristin Hersh, who will be performing at Newbury Comics on Newbury Street at 6:00 pm tonight. Hersh's new record, Learn to Sing Like a Star, out on Yep Roc, is the latest in her 20-year career. Hersh, along with...
There's a whole wide world out there, and here's the proof: DCist revels in The University of Maryland's basketball triumphs, marvels at Metro's security strategy, and applauds DC local Katie Couric's new gig. Phillyist is all about the Philadelphia Film Festival. OK, not all about -- they still have time for loitering, underage sex, and random wacky news. LAist would have to send a camera around the world to get shots as bizarre as Katie's...
Bostonist had a revelation this evening when it was finally made official that the Dave Matthews Band has been the chosen one to play at Fenway Park this summer. Bostonist's little sister (age 16) called in a hurry, asking if we had any connections to getting tickets and we suddenly felt very old. Bostonist now knows what our parents felt like when we would frequent Great Woods (now the Tweeter Center) to see the Allman Brothers each summer in high school. We stopped listening to Dave after freshman year of college but he's still attracting that Abercrombie (or American Eagle) crowd in droves to his concerts.
The New England Patriots are kicking off their regular season tonight against the Oakland Raiders at Gillette Stadium; with a somewhat mediocre pre-season, Coach Belichick and his boys will be taking the field at 9 p.m. to see if they can ultimately bring home a fourth Super Bowl title come this January. The Patriots will not be the only focus at the Razor tonight; New England is playing host to the NFL’s opening game, with...
Bostonist was a-rockin’ this weekend, even before the Rolling Stones took the stage at Fenway. Juliana Hatfield commanded a faithful audience at the Paradise on Saturday night, following Boston locals Furvis and The Gentlemen. Hatfield, backed up by The Gentlemen’s drummer and bassist, offered a refreshing dose of thoughtful, introspective rock and roll.
Bostonist first told you all about The Rolling Stones coming into town and playing at Fenway Park back in April; the authorities that be tried to keep it on the down low, but it was pretty much set that they'd be here. Well, the weekend of Mick, Keith and the boys is finally here as they take the stage in Sunday and Tuesday night performances in the Sox outfield, with the random addition of the Black Eyed Peas as the opening act. For those that paid equivalent to a small down payment on a home for these tickets, enjoy the show. For those fans who couldn't afford the seats, mosey on down to Newbury Fine Arts (at 29 Newbury Street) to see guitarist Ronnie Wood's work. These paintings, mixed medias, and drawings will be on display until August 29; there is an open party tomorrow night from 6:30-8:30p.m., but you won't meet Wood unless you throw down some cash and buy a piece of art, which start in the $4,000 range.
